2 2-oz. Skeins Shade No. 1228 Scarlet.
21 2-oz. Skeins Shade No. 1229 Red.
6 2-oz. Skeins Shade No. 1231 Cardinal.
1 Pr. Bone Knitting Needles No. 7.
1 Bone Crochet Hook No, 3 or 4.

With Red (Color No. 1229) cast on 41 sts.

1st Row—K 1, P 1, K 1, P 1, K 1, P 1, K 1, * P 2, K 2, P 2, K 2, P 2, K 1, P 1, K 1, P 1, K 1, P 1, K 1, repeat from *.

2nd Row—P 1, K 1, P 1, K 1, P 1, K 1, P 1, * K 2, P 2, K 2, P 2, K 2, P 1, K 1, P 1, K 1, P 1, K 1, P 1, repeat from *.

3rd Row—P 1, K 1, P 1, K 1, P 1, K 1, P 3, K 2, P 2, K 2, P 3, K 1, P 1, K 1, P 1, K 1, P 3, K 2, P 2, K 2, P 3, K 1, P 1, K 1, P 1, K 1, P 1.

11th, 14th, 15th, 18th, 19th Rows—P 7, * K 2, P 2, K 2, P 2, K 2, P 7 repeat from * to end of row.

12th, 13th, 16th, 17th, 20th Rows—K 7, * P 2, K 2, P 2, K 2 ,P 2, K 7, repeat from * and repeat these 20 rows for length desired completing a pattern.

On each side of stripe crochet the following border—Join Scarlet (Color No. 1228) to end of stripe, ch 3, 2 d c in same space, skip inch space, s c into side of stripe, ch 2, 2 d c in same space and continue to end of row.

2nd Row—With Red (Color No. 1229) work a shell in each 2 ch loop.

3rd Row—Attach Cardinal (Color No. 1231) and work same as 2nd row.

4th Row—With Cardinal (Color No. 1231) work 1 s c in 2 ch loop, 1 s c in each d c of shell. Work 4 more stripes and sew them together.

BORDER. Across short-ends work 1 row of 1 chain meshes as follows:

Join yarn, ch 4, skip 1 st, 1 d c in next st, ch 1, skip 1 st, 1 d c in next st, repeat across row, break yarn and fasten.

FRINGE. Cut 12 inch lengths of yarn, take 4 strands, double these and knot in each mesh.
