REQUIREMENTS:
YARN: 4 1-ounce balls Baby 3-ply.
NEEDLES: 1-pr. #1 Single Pointed; 1-pr #3 Single Pointed.
CROCHET HOOK: #3 Bone.
LACE PATTERN: 1st Row: * Purl 2 sts; k 1, yarn over, k 1; repeat from * ending row with p 2 sts. 2nd Row: * K 2 sts; p 3, repeat from * across row, ending with k 2. 3rd Row: * Purl 2 sts; slip 1, k 2 sts; psso (pass slip st over the k 2 sts); repeat from * across, ending with p 2. 4th Row: * k 2, p 2, repeat from * across row. Repeat these 4 rows for the lace pattern.
BACK: With the #3 needles cast on 74 sts and work in the lace pattern for 6½ inches. From now on work in the ribbing of p 2, k 2 for the remainder of the armhole. UNDERARM: Bind off 2 sts at the beginning of the next two rows, (Once at each side). Decrease 1 stitch at each side of the work every other row 4 times. Now work even in the ribbing until the armhole measures 3¼ inches above the underarm. Bind off all sts.
RIGHT FRONT: With the #3 needles cast on 42 sts and work in the LACE PATTERN until the piece measures 6½ inches. DISCONTINUE the lace pattern and work the remainder of the sweater in ribbing. UNDERARM: (With the wrong side of the work facing you) Bind off 2 sts once. Decrease 1 stitch at the underarm edge every other row 4 times. Work even until the armhole measures 2¼ inches above the underarm; ending at the next edge. NECK SHAPING: (Right side of work facing you.) Bind off 14 sts once, finish the row. Decrease 1 stitch at the neck edge every other row 4 times. Then when the armhole measures 3¼ inches above the underarm, bind off all the sts.
LEFT FRONT: Work as the right one until you come to the underarm bind off. UNDERARM: (With the right side of work facing you.) Bind off 2 sts once. Finish the rest of the front to correspond to the right one.
SLEEVES: With the #1 needles cast on 54 sts and work in ribbing: Row 1: * P 2, k 2, repeat from * across, end with p 2. Row 2: * K 2, p 2, repeat from * across, end with k 2. Repeat these 2 rows for one inch, ending with row 2. Now CHANGE to the #3 needles and work in the lace pattern until the sleeve measures 6½ inches in all. UNDERARM: Bind off 2 sts at the beginning of the next 2 rows. Still keeping the lace pattern, decrease 1 stitch at each side of the work every other row 5 times. From the right side of the work bind off all sts. MAKE THE OTHER SLEEVE THE SAME WAY.
FINISHING: Sew the shoulders, side seams on the sweater. Sew up sleeve seams and sew into the armhole matching the underarm seams.
CROCHETING: Using the #3 bone hook, starting at the bottom of the right front, with the right side of the work facing you. Make 1 s c into every other stitch up to the neck edge, 2 s c into the corner st, s c around the neck edge, 2 s c into the corner stitch. Work down the left front, 1 s c into every other st down to the corner. 2nd Row: Chain 1 turn; make 1 s c into every stitch; putting 2 s c into the corner until you come to the corner at the right front: * Chain 3 sts; skip 2 sts, 1 s c into each of the next 4 sts; repeat from * 2 times. Finish the row with 1 s c into each st. 3rd Row: 1 s c into each stitch all around the sweater. Sew the buttons on.
BONNET: With the #3 needles cast on 90 sts and work in ribbing as follows: Row 1: * P 2 sts; k 2 sts; repeat from * across row end with p 2. Row 2: * K 2 sts; p 2 sts; repeat from * across row end with k 2. Work in the ribbing for 1¼ inches ending with row 2. Now work in the lace pattern until the piece measures 5½ inches from the beginning; ending with row 4. Work in the ribbing pattern for 5 rows. DECREASE ROW: * Purl 2 sts tog., knit 2 sts tog, repeat from * across row. Work in ribbing of k 1, p 1, for 5 rows more. NEXT ROW: Knit 2 sts together across the row. Break yarn, leaving 10 inches. Draw through the remaining sts and fasten tight on the wrong side. Sew up the ribbing to form a circle. BAND AT THE NECK: With the #1 needles, with the right side of the work facing you pick up the sts around the neck edge (every st) omitting the ribbing at the front. Work in ribbing of k 2, p 2, for an inch. Bind off loosely all sts; knitting the k sts; purling the purl sts. Turn back the 1¼ inches at the front of the bonnet and sew down at sides.
BOOTIES: With the #3 needles cast on 38 sts and work in the LACE PATTERN for 2½ inches, ending with row 4. BEADING ROW: Purl 2 sts, * yarn over, k 2 tog; yarn over; p 2 tog; repeat from * across row ending with yarn over, p 2 tog. Purl all across the next row. INSTEP: K 12 sts, place these onto a stitch holder; p 2, k 2, over 14 sts and leave on the needle; place the remaining sts onto a 2nd st holder. Turn, and work on these instep sts for 16 rows. Break yarn. Onto a free needle, place the sts off the first st holder. Tie yarn in at the first st, pick up and knit 10 sts along side of instep; k across the 14 sts of the toe; pick up and k 10 sts along 2nd side of instep; k the sts off the 2nd st holder. Knit 5 rows. DECREASE ROW: 1st dec: K 2 tog, k 18, k 2 tog. k 14, k 2 tog. k 18, k 2 tog. K 3 rows even. 2nd dec: K 2 tog, k 16, k 2 tog, k 14, k 2 tog, k 16, k 2 tog. K 3 rows even. 3rd dec: K 2 tog, k 14, k 2 tog, k 14, k 2 tog, k 14, k 2 tog. K 2 rows. Bind off on the next row. Sew up the sole and the back of the bootie and trim with ribbon thru the beading row.
