Dextrous fingers that ply three or four knitting pins choose this charming flower-like design that starts in the center and works out into the hexagonal block. Knitted bedspreads are light in weight and soft to handle.

MATERIALS:
2 Pairs steel knitting needles No. 14
Choose one of the following threads:
J. & P. Coats Knit-Cro-Sheen (approx. 53 balls)
Clark's O.N.T. Lustersheen (approx. 41 skeins)
Clark's O.N.T. Knitting and Crochet Cotton (approx. 41 balls)

This amount is sufficient for a double size spread in White or Ecru.

Gauge: Blocks are hexagonal in shape (about 9 inches across from point to point) and each block requires about 68 yards of thread. For a double size spread (about 98 x 107 inches), or a single size spread (about 83 x 107 inches), make the necessary amount of blocks and then join them together to correspond with measurement.

Sk in the following directions means sl 2 sts (one at a time), on to the right hand needle, then insert left hand needle through the front of the 2 sl sts and k them together with right hand needle.

Beginning at the center, cast on 2 sts on each of 3 needles, and work in rnds as follows: 1st rnd: K around. 2nd rnd: * O (thread over), k 1, O, k 1, repeat from * around. 3rd rnd: K around. All uneven rnds will be same as 3rd rnd. 4th rnd: K 1, * O, k 2, repeat from * around, ending rnd with k 1. 6th rnd: K 2, * O, k 3, repeat from * around, ending rnd with k 1. 8th rnd: * Sk, O, k 1, O, k 1, repeat from * around, ending rnd with O, k 1. 10th rnd: * Sk, O, k 2, O, k 1, repeat from * around. 12th rnd: * Sk, O, sk, O, k 1, O, k 1, repeat from * around, ending round with O, k 1. 14th rnd: * Sk, O, sk, O, k 2, O, k 1, repeat from * around. 16th rnd: * Sk, O, sk, O, sk, O, k 1, O, k 1, repeat from * around. 18th rnd: * (Sk, O) 3 times, k 2, O, k 1, repeat from * around. 20th rnd: * (Sk, O) 3 times, k 2 together, O, k 1, O, k 1, repeat from * around. 22nd rnd: * Sk, O, sk, O, k 1, k 2 together, O, k 3, O, k 1, repeat from * around. 24th rnd: * Sk, O, sk, O, k 2 together, O, k 5, O, k 1, repeat from * around. 26th rnd: * Sk, O, k 1, k 2 together, O, k 7, O, k 1, repeat from * around. 28th rnd: * Sk, O, k 2 together, O, k 9, O, k 1, repeat from * around. 30th rnd: K 1, * k 2 together, O, k 11, O, k 2, repeat from * around, ending rnd with O, k 1.

   32nd rnd: * K 2 together, O, k 13, O, k 1, repeat from * around, ending rnd with O, k 1. 34th rnd: Sl 1 st, O, k 15, * O, k 2 together, O, k 15, repeat from * around, ending rnd with k 2 together. 36th rnd: O, k 1, O, * sk, k 11, k 2 together, (O, k 1) 3 times, then O, repeat from * around, ending rnd with O, k 1. 38th rnd: * O, k 1, O, sk, O, sk, k 9, k 2 together, O, k 2 together, O, k 1, O, k 1, repeat from * around. 40th rnd: * O, k 1, (O, sk) 3 times, then k 7, (k 2 together, O) 3 times, then, k 1, O, k 1, repeat from * around. 42nd rnd: * O, k 1, (O, sk) 4 times, then k 5, (k 2 together, O) 4 times, then k 1, O, k 1, repeat from * around. 44th rnd: * O, k 1, (O, sk) 5 times, then k 3, k 2 together, (O, k 2 together) 4 times, then O, k 1, O, k 1, repeat from * around. 46th rnd: * O, k 1, (O, sk) 6 times, then k 1, k 2 together, (O, k 2 together) 5 times, then O, k 1, O, k 1, repeat from * around. 48th rnd: * O, k 1, (O, sk) 6 times, O, sl 1, k 2 together, pass sl st over k-2 together, (O, k 2 together) 6 times, then O, k 1, O, k 1, repeat from * around. P the next 2 rnds and bind off. This completes block.

Joining: In joining blocks the scallops across the top and bottom are not the same as those along the sides (see diagram). Join blocks (by sewing together with over and over stitches on wrong side) in 9 strips of 12 blocks each, and 8 strips of 13 blocks each. Join strips by alternating 12-blocks and 13-blocks. To curve corner at bottom have strips of 12 blocks along each side of spread.

Fringe: For fringe, knot 8 strands of thread, each 10 inches long, around outer edges of spread, spacing them about ½ inch apart.
