Lace is worked lengthwise. Pattern requires a multiple of 13 sts. Allow 12 sts to an inch of completed lace. Cast on required number of sts.
1st row: K 1, thread over needle, * k 2 together for 6 times, thread over, k 1, thread over. Repeat from * across. Purl all even rows (except 12th).
3rd row: K across.
5th row: K 1, thread over, * k 2 together for 4 times, thread over, k 1, thread over and repeat from * across. 7th row: K 1, thread over, * k 1, k 2 together for 2 times, k 1, thread over, k 1, thread over and repeat from * across. 9th row: K 1, thread over, * k 1, k 2 together, k 1, thread over, k 1, thread over and repeat from * across. The 10th row completes the tree pattern.
Lacy background: 11th row: * K 1, thread over, k 2 together and repeat from * across. End with k 2 together, k 1. 12th row: * K 1, thread over, k 2 together and repeat from * across. Repeat 11th and 12th rows 4 more times. 21st row: K across. 22nd row: P across. Bind off. For wider lace repeat lacy background for desired width.
