SOAKER: Beginning at front waist, using size 3 needles, cast on 48 sts. K 1, P 1 for 3 rows (ribbing). Next row: To form holes for elastic, * K 1, K 2 tog, yarn over (yo), p 1, repeat from * across row. Next row: Continue ribbing as before, working a p st in yo of previous row. Rib for 2 more rows, then change to size 4 needles and pattern st. Row 1: K (right side of work). Row 2: * k 1, p 1, repeat from * across row. Row 3: K. Row 4: * p 1, k 1, repeat from * across row. Repeat these 4 rows for patt st throughout soaker. When work measures 5" from waist edge, begin shaping for legs. Bind off 4 sts at beginning of next 2 rows, then dec 1 st at beginning of each row, taking care to keep patt st uniform, until 20 sts remain. Work 2 rows even. Begin increasing 1 st at beginning of each row until 58 sts. Work even until 5" from last inc (back). To shape back waist: Work to within 12 sts from end of next row, turn, work back to within 12 sts from end of row, turn, work to end of row. Change to size 3 needles and begin ribbing in k 1, p 1 across entire row for 3 rows. Work 1 row to form holes for elastic as for front. Rib for 2 more rows. Bind off. Leg Ribbing: Using size 3 needles, k up 58 sts around entire leg. Rib in k 1, p 1, for 2 rows. If desired, work 1 row to form holes for ribbon insert (if plain rib is preferred, substitute 1 row of ribbing). Rib for 2 more rows. Bind off loosely. Work other leg ribbing to correspond. Finishing: Join side seams. If desired elastic may be covered with ribbon by sewing edges of 38" of 1" ribbon together to form a ½" tube. Run 17" of elastic through tube and sew securely 6" from ends of tube. Weave ribbon through holes in waist, beginning at center back. Tie in back. For ribbon-elastic in leg ribbing, make a 22" ribbon tube, run 8¼" of elastic through tube, sew ends 5" from end of tube. Weave through holes beginning at seam. Tie ribbon into bows. BIB: Using size 4 needles, cast on 38 sts. Work in patt st, dec 1 st at beg of each row until 12 sts remain. Bind off. Using size 3 needles, k up 70 sts around sides and top edges of bib. Rib in k 1, p 1 for 1 row. Next row (to keep ribbing flat) inc 1 st in each of 2 sts on either side of top edge of rib. Next row, rib uniformly. If ribbon trim is desired, work next row to form holes—if plain rib is desired, substitute 1 row ribbing. Work 2 more rows rib. Bind off loosely. For bib waist ribbing: Using size 3 needles, k up 48 sts along lower edge of bib, including rib on edge. Rib in k 1, p 1 for 2 rows. Next row, work to form holes. Work 2 rows more of rib. Bind off. Shoulder Straps: K up 7 sts from rib at top corners of bib. Rib in k 1, p 1 until strap measures 10". Make holes as follows: K 1, k 2 tog, yo, p 1, k 2 tog, yo, k 1. Rib for 2 rows. Bind off. Join bib to soaker: Beginning at center back, run ribbon through holes of waist ribbing and through strap holes at same time, then on front, weave ribbon through front and bib at same time. If desired, weave a 13" tube of ribbon, without elastic, through holes in bib top, sewing ends on wrong side at waist ribbing.
