MATERIALS: Chadwick's Red Heart Knitting Worsted, 7 balls (1 oz. balls) of Navy and 2 balls of White ... Bone Knitting Pins, 1 pair No. 2 ( 2¾ mm. size) ... Bone Cro­chet Hook No. 3 ... ½ yard of buck­ram and lining material ... 1 button- mold,½ inch  diameter.

BAG

BACK ... With Navy, cast on 52 sts. 1st row: Knit across. 2nd row: (Right side) K 1, p 1 alternately across. Re­peat the last 2 rows alternately until piece measures 10½ inches in all.
To Shape Flap ... Continuing in pattern, decrease 1 st at end of each row until 46 sts remain. Then bind off 2 sts at beginning of each row until 34 sts remain. Now bind off 4 sts at beginning of each row until 10 sts re­main. Bind off.

FRONT ... Work exactly as for Back until piece measures 8 inches. Bind off.

SHOULDER STRAP and GUSSET ... With Navy, cast on 17 sts and knit across. 1st row: P 7 N (Navy), attach White and p 3 W (White), p 7 N (Navy).

When changing colors, always twist one color around the other to prevent making a hole.

2nd row: K 6 N, k 3 W, k 1 N, k 1 W, k 6 N. 3rd row: P 5 N, p 3 W, p 1 N, p 3 W, p 5 N. 4th row: K 4 N, k 3 W, k 3 N, k 3 W, k 4 N.

Starting at 5th row, follow chart to top, then repeat from the 1st row to top of chart until piece measures 50 inches long. P 1 row Navy. Bind off.

Block pieces through a damp cloth. Sew. short ends of gusset neatly to­gether. Pin gusset between Back and Front of Bag and sew in place—the remaining piece forms shoulder strap. Line with buckram and lining material.

BUTTONLOOP ...  Cut 2 strands of Navy, each 2 yards long, tie ends together and twist tightly, fold twisted strands and give them a twist in the opposite direction. Tie a knot about 1 inch from each end and trim ends. Make a buttonloop with center of cord. Tie ends to form a bow. Sew bow to flap of back, allowing buttonloop to extend beyond point.

BUTTON ... Work as for Shoulder Strap through 9th row of chart, then k 1 row Navy, bind off. Cover buttonmold with this piece. Sew on button to correspond with buttonloop.

BELT

Work exactly as for Shoulder Strap and Gusset until Belt measures 3 inches less than waist measurement. Knit 1 row of Navy and bind off. Do not break off but work 11 sc across short end. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: Sc in 1st sc, (ch 3, skip next sc, sc in next 3 sc) twice; ch 3, skip 1 sc, sc in last sc. Ch 1, turn. 3rd row: (3 sc in next loop, skip 1 sc, sc in next sc) twice; 3 sc in next loop, sc in last sc. Break off. Work other end to correspond. Block and line belt.

CORD ... Cut 4 strands each of Navy and White 54 inches long and make a cord as for Buttonloop. Lace Cord through loops and tie.
