A knitted spread ... soft and airy as a zephyr ... knitted in strips that gain momentum with their zigzag flow. Luxuriously fringed as an added attraction. Attractive in white or any color.

MATERIALS:
CLARK'S O.N.T. MERCERIZED BEDSPREAD COTTON

SINGLE SIZE
17 balls of White or Ecru.
DOUBLE SIZE
21 balls of White or Ecru.

Milward's Casein Knitting Pins, 1 pair No. 2 (2¾ mm. size).

GAUGE:
Each strip measures 7 inches wide after blocking. For a single size spread, about 72 x 108 inches, including 5-inch fringe, make 9 strips. For a double size spread, about 93 x 108 inches, including 6-inch fringe, make 12 strips.

STRIP ... Cast on 54 sts. 1st row: Purl across. 2nd row: K 8, * k 2 tog., O, slip 1, k 2 tog., pass the slipped st over the k 2 tog., O, inc. 1 st in next st, k 12. Repeat from * across, ending with k 4. 3rd and all odd rows: K 3, P 48, k 3. 4th row: K 7, * k 2 tog., O, slip 1, k 2 tog., pass the slipped st over the k 2 tog., O, inc. 1 st in next st, k 12. Repeat from * across, ending with k 5. 6th row: K 6, * k 2 tog., O, slip 1, k 2 tog., p.s.s.o., O, inc. 1 st in next st, k 12. Repeat from * across, ending with k 6. 8th row: K 5, * k 2 tog., O, slip 1, k 2 tog., p.s.s.o., O, inc. 1 st in next st, k 12. Make the necessary number of strips and sew them together with neat over-and-over stitches on wrong side.
FRINGE ... Cut 8 strands, each 15 inches long. Double these strands, forming a loop. With a crochet hook, pull loop through spread, 2 sts in from edge, and draw loose ends of fringe through this loop. Pull tight to form a knot. Make fringe ½ inch apart, around 3 edges. Then knot together 8 strands of 2 adjacent knots, 1 inch down from 1st row of knots. Continue thus along entire fringe. Make another row of knots in same manner, 1 inch down from last row of knots. Work 2 rows of single crochet along 4th edge, for top of spread. Trim fringe evenly.
