Diamond Chevron Socks Pattern

All sizes

MATERIAL:
2 balls Sock yarn 3 ply, m. c. (1 oz. ball)
1 ball Sock yarn 3 ply, 1st c. c. for diamond
1 ball Sock yarn 3 ply, 2nd c. c. for chevron
1 ball Sock yarn 3 ply, 3rd c. c. for chevron
1 pair knitting needles each No. 1 and No. 2
1 set sock needles No. 2
1  set of yarn bobbins
2  stitch holders
1 card Nylon for heel and toe reinforcement

GAUGE: 7 sts. = 1 inch

Note: Main color = M
1st c. c. for diamond = L
2nd c. c. for chevron = D
3rd c. c. for chevron = C

Wind 2 bobbins of M, 3 bobbins of L and take 4 long strands of yarn each in D and C. With M and No. 1 needles cast on 64 sts. and work in ribbing K 1, P 1 for 3 inch. Break off yarn. Change to No. 2 needles, stock, st. and pattern. 1st row: Attach 1 bobbin of L, K 1 L; attach a bobbin of M, K 30 M; attach another bobbin of L, K 2 L; attach another bobbin of M, K 30 M; attach another bobbin of L, K 1 L. 2nd row: P 2 L, 28 M, 4 L, 28 M, 2 L. 3rd row: K 3 L, 2 M', attach a strand of D, K 2D, 8 M, attach a strand of C, K 2 C, 8 M, attach another strand of D, K 2 D, 2 M, 6 L, 2 M, attach a strand of D, K 2 D, 8 M, attach a strand of C, K 2 C, 8 M, attach another strand of D, K 2 D, 2 M, K 3 L. All your colors are now attached. Follow chart until 54 rows are worked ending with a P row. Attach M, K across 16 sts. and slip them to a holder; work across next 32 sts. for instep as follows: attach a strand of C, K 1 C, 8 M; attach a strand of D, K 2 D, 2 M, 6 L; 2 M, attach a strand of D, K 2 D, 8 M; attach a strand of C, K 1 C, slip the rem. 16 sts. to a holder. Work over instep sts. only as shown on chart, break all bobbins and slip the sts. to a sock needle (2nd needle). Heel: Slip the 16 sts. from each holder to one needle for heel. (Make sure that center of heel is center of sock.) Attach a ball of M and Nylon, and starting: on right side, work as follows: 1st row: * slip 1, K 1, repeat from * across row. 2nd row: P across row. Repeat these 2 rows for 28 rows. Now shape heel: (right side facing you) slip 1, K 16, K 2 tog., K 1, turn. Slip 1, P 3. P 2 tog.. P 1, turn. Slip 1, K 4. K 2 tog., K 1, turn. Slip 1, P 5, P 2 tog., P 1, turn. Slip 1, E 6, K 2 tog., K 1, turn. Continue to work this way having one more st. on each row until 18 sts. are left over. Break yam and cut off Nylon. Right side facing you. pick on with M and a sock needle 14 sts. on one side of heel. K across 9 heel sts. (3rd needle). Take another sock needle. K the rem. 9 heel sts., pick up 14 sts. on other side of heel (1st needle). Work over 1st and 3rd needles only. 1st row: P back. 2nd row: K 1, slip 1, K 1. p. s. s. o. the K  st., K to the last 3 sts. on 1st needle. K 2 tog., K 1. Repeat these 2 rows until there are 32 sts. on 1st and 3rd needles tog. Work as long as instep sts. Connect the 3 needles and work all around on sock needles until foot measures 8 inch, from back of heel for size 10; 8½ inch, for size 10½: 9 inch, for size 11: 9½ inch, for size 11½. or 2 inch, shorter than desired length. Start to decr, for toe: Attach Nylon. 1st round: K to within 3 sts. of first needle, K 2 tog., K 1: on 2nd needle K 1. slip 1, K 1 and n. s. s. o. the K st., K to within 3 sts., K 2 tog., K 1; on 3rd needle K 1, slip 1, K 1 and p. s. s. o. the K st. K to end. 2nd round: K around. Repeat these 2 rounds until 20 sts. are left. Weave sts. tog. Sew up back and side seams. Steam lightly.
