GAUGE: No. 13 needles: 4 sts make 1 inch; 3 ridges make 1 inch. No. 3 needles: 13 sts make 2 inches; 8 ridges make 1 inch.
BACK … Starting at bottom with No. 13 needles, cast on 92 sts very loosely. Knit each row (garter st) for 11 inches. Change to No. 3 needles, increasing 18 sts evenly across row. There are 110 sts on needle. Continue working in garter st for 4 rows.
To Shape Armholes: Working in garter st, bind off 8 sts at beginning of next 2 rows. Dec 1 st at end of next 10 rows until 84 sts remain. Work without decreasing until piece measures 7 inches from 1st row of armhole shaping.
To Shape Shoulders: Bind off 7 sts at the beginning of each row until 28 sts remain. Bind off.
FRONT (Make 2) … Cast on 50 sts loosely on No. 13 needles. Work in garter st until piece measures 11 inches. Change to No. 3 needles, increasing 11 sts evenly across row. Work 4 rows in garter st.
To Shape Armhole: Bind off 8 sts at beginning of next row. Continue working in garter st, decreasing 1 st at armhole edge every other row 5 times until 48 sts remain. Work without decreasing until piece measures 5 inches from 1st row of armhole shaping, ending at front edge. Bind off 8 sts at neck edge. Bind off 2 sts every other row at neck edge until 28 sts remain. Work without decreasing until piece measures 7 inches from 1st row of armhole shaping.
To Shape Shoulder: Bind off 7 sts at armhole edge every other row 4 times.
SLEEVES … With No. 13 needles cast on 60 sts very loosely. Work in garter st for 5 inches. Change to No. 3 needles, increasing 40 sts evenly across row. Work 4 rows of garter st.
To Shape Top: Bind off 8 sts at the beginning of the next 2 rows. Dec 1 st at end of every row until 50 sts remain. Then bind off 3 sts at the beginning of each row until 16 sts remain. Bind off.
RUFFLED CUFFS … With No. 8 needles, cast on 16 sts and work as follows: 1st row: Knit across. 2nd row: K 3, p 13. 3rd row: K 13, turn. 4th row: P 13. 5th row: P 13, k 3. 6th row: Knit across. 7th row: P 13, turn. 8th row: K 13. Repeat these 8 rows 25 times for each sleeve. Bind off.
COLLAR … Work pattern as for Ruffled Cuffs 27 times, then work the first 4 rows. Bind off.
Block garment. Sew up side and shoulder seams. Sew up sleeve seams and set in sleeves. Sew garter st edge of Ruffle around bottom of sleeves. Sew collar in place. Cut 1¾ yards of ribbon and lace through holes between ribbing and garter st on ruffles. Divide the remaining ribbon for sleeves and lace in same way as for Collar.
