Angora Bolero Pattern

Big date tonight! Junior miss chooses a cherry-red bolero to cover her shoulders, send color to her face, its softly-curved lines serve equally well as the bright, right accent for movie night or prom dresses. Knit in stockinette stitch of angora yarn, bound in self-knitting. Sizes 11, 13, 15.

SIZES: Directions are for size 11. Changes for 13 and 15 are in parentheses.

MATERIALS: Beehive Fuzzy-Wuzzy Angora, 10 (12-14) 10-gram balls, No. 612 Cherry. Knitting needles Nos. 1 and 3 (standard). English sizes, 12 and 10. One small button.

GAUGE: 7 sts = l"; 10 rows = l".

BACK: With No. 3 needles, cast on 93 (100-107) sts. Work in stockinette st, inc 1 st each side every 5th row 7 times; 107 (114-121) sts. Work even until piece measures 4" (4½"-5") from start.

Shape Sleeves: Cast on 11 sts at beg of next 2 rows. Inc 1 st each side every 5th row 12 times; 153 (160-167) sts. Work even until sleeve measures 6¼" (6½"-6¾") straight up from cast-on sts.

Shape Sleeves and Shoulders: Bind off 3 sts at beg of next 8 rows; 5 sts at beg of next 8 rows; 10 (11-12) sts at beg of next 6 rows. Bind off remaining 29 (30-31) sts for back of neck.

RIGHT FRONT: With No. 3 needles, cast on 4 sts. P first row. Work in stockinette st, cast on 4 sts at beg of k rows (center edge) 2 times; 3 sts 4 times; 2 sts 6 (7-9) times; 1 st 8 (10-10) times; and at the same time, inc 1 st at end of k rows (side edge) every 5th row 7 times. When shaping is completed, end side edge; 51 (55- 59) sts. Piece measures same as back.

Shape Sleeve: Cast on 11 sts at side edge, then inc 1 st every 5th row 12 times; and at the same time, inc 1 st at center edge every 4th row 10 times. When incs are completed work even on 84 (88-92) sts until sleeve measures same as back.

Shape Sleeve, Shoulder and Neck: Bind off 3 sts at beg of sleeve edge 3 times, end at center edge. Bind off 14 (15-16) sts beg of center edge once; 2 sts twice; then 1 st 4 times; and at the same time, continue shoulder shaping, bind off 3 sts once; 5 sts 4 times; 10 (11-12) sts 3 times.

LEFT FRONT: Work to correspond to right front, reversing all shaping (k first row, cast on beg and inc end of p rows).

Binding: With No. 1 needles, cast on 11 sts. Work in stockinette st long enough to fit around edge of back and fronts to neck shaping. Make separate binding for neck and sleeve edges.

Finishing: Block. Sew shoulder and underarm seams. Starting at neck edge of left front, with right side of binding to right side of work, sew edge of binding around edge of bolero. Turn binding over onto right side and sew other edge neatly to wrong side of bolero. Finish neck and sleeve edges (seam at underarm) in same manner. Crochet a buttonloop at top of right front edge. Sew button in place, having right front overlapping at neck. Sew snap fastener at inner edge of neckband.
