Shoulderette Pattern

Twilight discloses a new concept in after-dark coverage—the evening shoulderette, knit of ribbon and fine yarn in double seed stitch and studded with rhinestones. Its revers collar and soft-shouldered sleeves require little shaping, are knit in one flat piece, sleeves tacked back. One size.

MATERIALS: Nomotta Ruban d'Art, 4 100-yd. spools. Nomotta Chiffonlace, 4¾-oz. skeins. 14" knitting needles No. 8 or circular needle No. 8 (standard). Eng­lish size, 5. Plastic crochet hook, No. 6. 200 rhinestones, sequins or beads.

GAUGE: 4 sts = 1".

Use 1 strand of ribbon and 1 strand of yarn, hold the two together throughout.

Starting at top, cast on 94 sts.

Row 1: K 2, * p 2, k 2; repeat from * to end.

Row 2: P 2, * k 2, p 2; repeat from * to end.

Row 3: Inc 1 st in first st, p 1, * k 2, p 2; repeat from * to within 1 st of end, inc 1 st in last st.

Row 4: P 1, * k 2, p 2; repeat from *, ending p 1.

Row 5: Inc 1 st in first st, * k 2, p 2, repeat from * to within 1 st of end, inc 1 st in last st.

Row 6: K 2, * p 2, k 2; repeat from * to end.

Inc 1 st at each side next row and repeat increases every 2nd row, until there are 122 sts, keeping double seed st pat. Pat now requires a multiple of 8 plus 2 sts.

First Inc Row for Back Shaping: K 2, p 2 until 60 sts, place marker on needle, inc 1 st in each of next 2 sts, place marker on needle; p 2, k 2 to end.

Next row: P 2, k 2 for 60 sts, p 4; k 2, p 2 to end.

2nd Inc: P 2, k 2 to marker (always after 60th st from beg and before 60th st from end), inc 1 st in next st, p 2, inc 1 st in next st; k 2, p 2 to end.

Next row: K 2, p 2 across, end k 2.

3rd Inc: K 2, p 2 to marker, inc 1 st in next st, k 1, p 2, k 1, inc 1 st in next st; p 2, k 2 to end.

Next row: P 2, k 2 to marker; p 3, k 2, p 3; k 2, p 2 to end.

4th Inc: P 2, k 2 to marker, inc 1 st in next st, p 2, k 2, p 2, inc 1 st in next st; k 2, p 2 to end.

Next row: K 2, p 2 to marker, p 2, k 2, p 2, k 2, p 2; then p 2, k 2 to end.

5th Inc: K 2, p 2 to marker, inc 1 st in next st, p 1, k 2, p 2, k 2, p 1, inc 1 st in next st; p 2, k 2 to end.

Next row: P 2, k 2 to marker, p 1, k 2, p 2, k 2, p 2, k 2, p 1; then k 2, p 2 to end.

6th Inc: P 2, k 2 to marker, inc 1 st in next st, k 2, p 2, k 2, p 2, k 2, inc 1 st in next st; then k 2, p 2 to end.

Next row: K 2, * p 2, k 2; repeat from * to end.

Inc 2 sts on next and every other row in this way, keeping pat until there are 180 sts. Bind off. Work 1 row s c around entire outer edge.

Finishing: Press lightly, if a flat texture is desired. Sew on rhinestones, sequins, or beads. The rhinestones may also be glued on with a clear all-purpose cement.

To form sleeves: Fold in the front edge about 8" and tack at lower edge.
