MATERIALS — Fleisher's or Bear Brand De Luxe Sock and Sport Yarn, 7 skeins.
Bucilla 14-inch Plastic Needles, 1 pair each Sizes 1 and 3.
MEASUREMENTS OF GARMENT—Width of back from cuff to cuff 45½ (46½-47½) ins.
Length to back of neck, including neckband 16½ (16¾-17) ins.
GAUGE: 8 sts = 1 inch; 21 rows = 2 inches
BACK—With size 1 needles, cast on 96 (104-112) sts. Work k 1, p 1 ribbing for 12 rows, decreasing 1 st at end of last row; 95 (103-111) sts. With size 3 needles, p 1 row.
Pattern—Row 1—right side—K 1, * p 1, k 3; repeat from *, end p 1, k 1. P 1 row, k 1 row, p 1 row. Row 5—* K 3, p 1; repeat from *, end k 3. P 1 row, k 1 row, p 1 row. Repeating these 8 rows for pat., inc. 1 st each side of next row, and repeat every 2nd row 22 times, with care to carry out pat. on added sts; 141 (149-157) sts. Cast on 2 sts at beg. of next 10 rows; 4 sts at beg. of next 6 rows; 9 sts at beg. of next 18 rows; 347 (355-363) sts.
Work even until 12½ (12¾-13) ins. above ribbing.
Upper Sleeve Seam and Shoulder Shaping—Bind off 6 (10-14) sts at beg. of next 2 rows. Bind off 15 sts at beg. of next 20 rows; 35 sts.
Neck Band—With size 1 needles, work k 1, p 1 ribbing for 12 rows. Bind off in ribbing.
RIGHT FRONT—With size 3 needles, cast on 4 (8-12) sts. P 1 row. Cast on 3 sts at beg. of next row. Work pat., casting on 3 sts for front edge shaping at beg. of every k row 3 times more; 16 (20-24) sts. P 1 row. Mark beg. of k rows for front edge.
Front and Underarm Shaping—Cast on 2 sts at front edge and inc. 1 st at underarm edge every k row 13 times; 55 (59-63) sts. Inc. 1 st at front edge and 1 st at underarm edge every k row 6 times; 67 (71-75) sts. Keeping front edge even, continue to shape underarm edge, increasing 1 st every 2nd row 4 times; casting on 2 sts every 2nd row 5 times; 4 sts every 2nd row 3 times; 9 sts every 2nd row 9 times; 174 (178-182) sts. Work even until sleeve edge is same length as on back, end at front edge.
Upper Sleeve Seam, Shoulder and Neck Shaping—Bind off 9 sts at beg. of next row for neck. Shaping upper part of sleeve and shoulder as for back, dec. 1 st at neck edge every row 5 times; every 2nd row 4 times. Keeping neck edge even, finish shoulder shaping as on back.
LEFT FRONT—With size 3 needles, cast on 4 (8-12) sts. P 1 row. Work pat., casting on 3 sts for front edge shaping at end of every k row 4 times; 16 (20-24) sts. Mark end of k rows for front edge. Finish to correspond to right front, shaping at opposite sides.
RIGHT FRONT RIBBING—With size 1 needle, beg. on lower edge at underarm, pick up and k 144 sts evenly spaced around lower and front edge to corner at neck edge; place a marker before next st, k 1 st in corner, place a marker after corner st, pick up and k 33 sts around neck edge to shoulder; 178 sts.
Row 1—wrong side—Work k 1, p 1 ribbing to end.
Row 2—K 1, p 1 ribbing to first marker, pick up and twist loop before next st, slip on left needle and k 1 in twisted loop—an inc.—; k corner st, repeat inc. in loop before next st, finish row.
Row 3—Work ribbing to corner st, inc. as before in loop before corner st, p corner st, inc. 1 as before, finish row. Repeat rows 2 and 3, 3 times more. Work 2 rows even. Bind off in ribbing.
LEFT FRONT RIBBING—With size 1 needle, beg. on neck edge at shoulder, pick up and k 33 sts to front corner, place marker, k 1 st in corner, place marker, pick up and k 144 sts on front and lower edge as on right front; 178 sts.
Row 1—wrong side—Work p 1, k 1 ribbing. Finish to correspond to right front.
Sew upper sleeve and shoulder seams.
CUFFS—With size 1 needles from right side, pick up and k 68 (72-76) sts on sleeve edge. Work k 1, p 1 ribbing for 11 rows. Bind off in ribbing. Sew underarm seams. Steam.
