MATERIAL:
2  balls Sock yarn, 3 ply (1 oz. ball) for short socks
3 balls Sock yarn, 3 ply (1 oz. ball) for long socks
1 set sock needles No. 2

GAUGE: 8 sts. = 1 inch

Cast on 64 sts. (72 sts. for long socks). Join, being careful not to twist sts. and K 1, P 1 for 1½ (2 inch.). Change to pattern: 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th rounds: K 4, P 4. 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th rounds: P 1, * K 4, P 4, repeat from * across round, end P 3. 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th rounds: P 2, * K 4, P 4, repeat from * across round, end P 2. 13th, 14th, 15th and 16th rounds: P 3, * K 4, P 4, repeat from * across round, end P 1. 17th, 18th, 19th and 20th rounds: P 4, K 4 all across round. 21st, 22nd, 23rd and 24th rounds: K 1, * P 4, K 4, repeat from * across round, end K 3. 25th, 26th, 27th and 28th rounds: K 2, * P 4, K 4, repeat from * all across round, end K 2. 29th, 30th, 31st, 32nd rounds: K 3, * P 4, K 4, repeat from * all across round, end K 1. Repeat these 32 rounds until the entire sock measures 16 inch. (20 inch.). Shape toe:
1st round: * K 2, K 2 tog., P 4, repeat from * across round.
2nd round: * K 3, P 4, repeat from * across round.
3rd round: * K 3, P 2, P 2 tog., repeat from * across round.
4th round: * K 3, P 3, repeat from * across round.
5th round: * K 1, K 2 tog., P 3, repeat from * across round.
6th round: * K 2, P 3, repeat from * across round.
7th round: * K 2, P 2, tog., P 1, repeat from * across round.
8th round: * K 2, P 2, repeat from * across round.
9th round: * K 2 tog., P 2, repeat from * across round.
10th round: * K 1, P 2, repeat from * across round.
11th round: * K 1, P 2 tog., repeat from * across round.
12th round: * K 1, P 1, repeat from * across round.
Break yarn and leave a 6 inch end. Pull sts. tog. Fasten off tightly on wrong side.
