Sweater Blouse Pattern #43

Size 12-14 Years

Materials: Chadwick's Red Heart Germantown Zephyr, 7 balls of main color and 1 ball of a contrasting color (1 oz. balls). If 30-yd. balls are used, buy three times the amount specified.
Milward's Casein knitting pins, 1 pair No. 9 (5¼ mm. size).
Milward's steel crochet hook No. 1.
12 buttons, ¾ inch diameter.

Gauge: 5 sts make 1 inch.

Back. Starting at shoulder, with main color cast on 88 sts and k each row for 6 inches. Then, bind off 10 sts at beginning of each of next 2 rows (68 sts remain). Work straight until piece measures 17 inches in all. Bind off. Break off.

Right Front. With main color cast on 44 sts and work as for back for 6 inches. Then, bind off 10 sts at beginning of next row (34 sts remain). Work straight until piece measures 17 inches in all. Bind off. Break off.

Left Front. Same as Right Front.

Sew up side seams. Sew up shoulder seams, leaving 4½ inches for back of neck. With crochet hook work a row of s c around all edges. Then, starting at lower edge of right front, * ch 5, skip 3 s c, s c in each of next 3 s c. Repeat from * across right front. Break off. Sew buttons on left front to correspond with buttonloops.

Chain Cord. With contrasting color and crochet hook, make a chain to measure 2½ yds. long. Break off. With a darning needle, run this chain in and out every other st at waistline for 2 rows. Finish sleeves and neck in same way. Finish ends of cord at neck and waistline with tassels and tie. Make a bow with cords of sleeves.

Tassel: Cut a cardboard 1¾ inches wide and 6 inches long. Cut a piece of yarn 12 inches long and place it across the length of cardboard. Then with one strand of each color wind yarn around the width of cardboard about 20 times. Break off. Pick up both ends of the 12-inch length of yarn and tie securely. Slip tassel off cardboard and wind yarn twice around near top and tie securely. Break off. Cut the double ends of tassel and trim evenly.
