Single Size
J. & P. COATS BEDSPREAD COTTON, 13 balls of White or Ecru.
Double Size
J. & P. COATS BEDSPREAD COTTON, 16 balls of White or Ecru.
Two double-pointed steel needles No. 15.

GAUGE:
Each strip measures about 7½ inches wide after blocking. For a single size spread, about 73 x 106 inches including the 3-inch edging, make 9 strips. For a double size spread about 89 x 106 inches including the 3-inch edging, make 11 strips.

STRIPS … Starting at one end, cast on 69 sts and k across. 1st row: K 4, k 2 tog., * k 4, O, k 1, O, k 4, k 3 tog. Repeat from * across, ending row with k 4, O, k 1, O, k 4, k 2 tog., k 4. 2nd row: K 4, p 2 tog., * p 3, (O, p 3) twice, p 3 tog. Repeat from * across, ending row with p 3, (O, p 3) twice, p 2 tog., k 4. 3rd row: K 4, k 2 tog., k 2, O, k 5, O, * k 2, k 3 tog., k 2, O, k 5, O. Repeat from * across, ending row with k 2, k 2 tog., k 4. 4th row: K 4, p 2 tog., * p 1, O, p 7, O, p 1, p 3 tog. Repeat from * across, ending row with p 1, O, p 7, O, p 1, p 2 tog., k 4. 5th row: K 4, k 2 tog., * O, k 9, O, k 3 tog. Repeat from * across, ending row with O, k 9, O, k 2 tog., k 4. 6th row: K 4, p 1, * O, p 4, p 3 tog., p 4, O, p 1. Repeat from * across, ending row with k 4. 7th row: K 6, * O, k 3, k 3 tog., k 3, O, k 3. Repeat from * across, ending row with O, k 3, k 3 tog., k 3, O, k 6.
   8th row: K 4, p 3, * O, p 2, p 3 tog., p 2, O, p 5. Repeat from * across, ending row with O, p 2, p 3 tog., p 2, O, p 3, k 4. 9th row: K 8, * O, k 1, k 3 tog., k 1, O, k 7. Repeat from * across, ending row with O, k 1, k 3 tog., k 1, O, k 8. 10th row: K 4, p 5, * O, p 3 tog., O, p 9. Repeat from * across, ending row with O, p 3 tog., O, p 5, k 4. These ten rows constitute the pattern. Repeat pattern until piece measures about 100 inches (be careful to complete the last pattern). Bind off.
   Make the necessary number of strips and sew them together with neat over-and-over stitches on wrong side.

EDGING … Cast on 21 sts and p across. 1st row: O, k 1, O, k 2, (k 2 tog.) twice, k 2, O, k 2 tog., k 4, O, k 2 tog., k 4. 2nd and all even rows: K 6, O, p 2 tog., p remaining sts. 3rd row: O, k 3, O, k 1, (k 2 tog.) twice, k 1, O, k 2 tog., k 4, O, k 2 tog., k 4. 5th row: O, k 5, O, (k 2 tog.) twice, O, k 2 tog., k 4, O, k 2 tog., k 4. 7th row: O, k 3, k 2 tog., k 2, O, k 2 tog., O, k 2 tog., k 4, O, k 2 tog., k 4. 8th row: Repeat 2nd row. Repeat these 8 rows until edging is long enough to go around entire spread, easing in at corners to curve. Sew edging to spread with neat over-and-over stitches on wrong side. Block to measurements given.
