Skyline Blouse Pattern #148

Size 34-36

Materials: J. & P. Coats Knit-Cro-Sheen, 8 balls of color 78 Turquoise, 1 ball of 102 Coffee Brown. Milward’s knitting pins, 1 pair No. 2 (2¾ mm. size). 8 buttons.

Gauge: 6 sts equal 1 inch; 6 rows equal 1 inch. Use thread double throughout.

Back: Using No. 8 needles, cast on 102 sts. Change to No. 2 needles and work a row k 1, p 1. Blouse is worked in seed st. 2nd row: P 1, k 1 across. (Always have a knitted st come over a purled st, and a purled st over a knitted st). 3rd to 5th rows incl: Work even. 6th row: Decrease 1 st at beginning and end of row. * Work another inch and decrease same as for 6th row. Repeat from * 4 more times (90 sts on needle). Continue evenly until work measures 7½ inches then increase 1 st at beginning of each of next 2 rows and make similar increases every inch 2 more times (96 sts on needle). When work measures 11½ inches, start shaping armhole by binding off 3 sts at beginning of each of next 2 rows. * Bind off 1 st at beginning of each of next 2 rows, work 3 rows even. Repeat from * 2 more times. (84 sts on needle).

   When work measures 17½ inches start shaping shoulder seam. Bind off 3 sts at beginning of each of next 4 rows. On next row bind off 14 center sts to start neck opening. Then work one side, binding off 7 sts on shoulder line, and 4 sts on neckline. Next 2 rows: Bind off 7 sts on shoulder line and 4 sts on neckline. Break off and finish other side to correspond.

Right Front: Using No. 8 needles, cast on 42 sts. Change to No. 2 needles and work same as back, making the 6 decreases at one side only, keeping the other side straight. (36 sts at waistline). Continue as for back, making increases on underarm seam, and decreases to shape armhole. When work measures 18 inches bind off 4 sts on shoulder line. * On next row bind off 8 sts at shoulder line and 1 st at neckline. Repeat from * once, then bind off remaining sts. Make left front to correspond. Sew shoulder seams.

Sleeves: Holding right side toward you, pick up and work 10 sts each side of shoulder seam. On each end of every row pick up 10 more sts until work includes entire armhole. Work for 2 inches then decrease 1 st at each end every 1½ inches until sleeve is desired length. Sew underarm and sleeve seams.

Band With Buttonholes: Cast on 14 sts and k plain for 6 rows. * K 4, bind off 6 sts, k 4. Next row: K 4, cast on 6 sts, k 4. Work 14 rows (7 ridges) and repeat from * 3 more times. Then k plain for 6 inches. At other end work 4 more buttonholes with 7 ridges between. End work with 3 ridges and bind off. With Brown, work buttonhole st around buttonholes.

Band: Cast on 14 sts and k plain until work measures same as other band. Bind off. Sew this band to left side from neckline to within 6 inches from bottom edge. Attach other side of band to right side of front at lower edge and sew on for 6 inches. Sew other band to right side from neckline to within 6 inches of bottom, then sew other side of band from lower edge of left front up about 12 inches. Sew on buttons to correspond with buttonholes, and button only 4th and 5th buttons as in illustration.

Pocket: Cast on 18 sts and work in seed st for 5 rows, then decrease 1 st at each end every 3rd row for 3 times, then 1 st at each end every row until work comes to a point, fasten off. Work out a monogram and with Brown make ch's of desired length. Work a row of half d c over ch's and sew to pocket in shape of monogram.
