Satin Stripe Afghan Pattern

CHADWICK'S RED HEART KNITTING WORSTED, 4 Ply, Art. E.232: 64 skeins (1 oz. "Tangle-Proof" Pull-Out Skeins) of No. 789 Bittersweet.

Clark's O.N.T. Plastic Knitting Pins, 1 pair No. 8 (5 mm. size).

2 pillows, 18 inches square; 1 pillow 14 inches square.

38 yards of satin ribbon, 1½ inches wide.

GAUGE: 9 sts make 2 inches; 9 rows make 1 inch.

Afghan measures 45 x 65 inches; Pillows 18 inches square and 14 inches square.

STRIP (Make 5) … Cast on 41 sts. Work in garter st (k each row) until piece measures 65 inches. Bind off. With ribbon bind long sides of 3 strips. Bind rib­bon on one long side of one strip and on opposite long side of remaining strip (outer edges). Sew strips together (Fig. 1). Bind ribbon all around outer edge of afghan, mitering corners. Block to measurements.

LARGE PILLOW (Make 2)Strip (Make 4) … Work exactly as for afghan strip until piece measures 18 inches. Bind off. Bind long sides of strips and sew 2 sets of 2 strips together. Bind all around outer edges of each piece. Sew pieces together, inserting pillow.

SMALL PILLOWStrip (Make 4) … Cast on 31 sts and work in garter st until piece measures 14 inches. Bind off. Complete as for Large Pillow.
