Materials for Set
CYNTHIA Bay-Bee Yarn or CYNTHIA Shetland Floss: 4 ozs. White No. 300, 2 ozs. Pink No. 358.
One pair bone needles No. 4 (3½ MM).
One pair bone needles No. 2 (2¾ MM).
Two yards ½ inch satin ribbon.
One yard 1 inch satin ribbon
Gauge: 7 sts = 1 inch
With Pink, cast on 60 sts on No. 4 needles. 1st row: * K 1, P 1, repeat from * across row. 2nd row: Purl. Repeat 1st and 2nd rows 3 times. 9th row: Repeat 1st row; this completes border, break off Pink and tie in White. 10th row: K across entire row. 11th row: K across entire row. 12th row: K 50, turn, leaving remaining 10 sts on needle. 13th row: K back across the 50 sts, slipping the 1st st. Repeat 10th, 11th, 12th and 13th rows until work measures 6 inches from beginning (including border). Next row: Starting at bottom edge, bind off 40 sts, K 20, turn. Next row: K 20, cast on 30 sts for left sleeve; work as follows: 1st row: K 40, turn, leaving remaining 10 sts on needle.
2nd row: K back, slipping the 1st st. 3rd and 4th rows: K across entire row. Repeat these 4 rows until sleeve measures 6 inches across. Next row: Starting at cuff edge, bind off 30 sts, K 10, turn. Next row: K back, cast on 40 sts. Continue working in same manner until back measures 12 inches across. Bind off for underarm and work right sleeve and front to correspond with left sleeve and front, working border with Pink. Neck band: With Pink, pick up 104 sts around neck edge. Work ribbing of K 2, P 2 for 1 inch. Bind off tightly.
Cuff: With Pink, pick up 36 sts around lower edge of sleeve and work border st for 1 inch. Bind off. Sew underarm and sleeve seams. Work a loop on right front edge of ribbing at neck edge and attach a pearl button on left front edge.
With White, cast on 7 sts. 1st row: Knit. 2nd row: K, increasing 1 st in each st (14 sts). 3rd row: K even. 4th row: K, increasing in every other st (21 sts). 5th row: K even. 6th row: K, increasing in every 3rd st (28 sts). 7th row: K even. Continue increasing 7 sts every other row and having 1 more st between increases, until there are 84 sts. Bind off 2 sts at the beginning of the next 2 rows, then K even for 3½ inches. Tie in Pink and work border, same as on jacket, for 14 rows. Bind off. Join at center back, fold border back over front of bonnet and tack at each side.
Neck band: With Pink, pick up 50 sts across neck edge. 1st row: K 18, work next 14 sts in ribbing of K 2, P 2, K 18. Repeat this row 7 times and bind off. Make 2 rosettes of ½ inch ribbon, cut 1 inch satin ribbon in two lengths and sew one end of each length to a rosette. Attach at each side of bonnet.
With Pink, cast on 46 sts on No. 2 needles and work in ribbing of K 2, P 2 for 10 rows. Next row: K 2, * yarn over, K 2 together, K 2, repeat from * across row. Work ribbing for 8 more rows. Work knee as follows: K 28, turn; K 10, turn; K 11, turn; K 12, turn; continue turning and knitting 1 st more each time until all sts have been knitted. K 8 rows even. Decrease 1 st each end of next row (to decrease, K the 2nd and 3rd sts together from each end). K 14 rows even and decrease 1 st each end. K 3 rows even and decrease each end. Decrease every 4th row two more times, then K 5 rows and decrease again, K 6 rows even (34 sts). Next row: K 10 and put sts on a spare needle. K 14 and put remaining 10 sts on third needle. Work even on the center 14 sts for 36 rows (instep), break yarn. Tie in yarn on side needle, pick up 18 sts on side of instep, K 14 instep sts, pick up 18 sts on other side of instep, K 10 (70 sts). Work even for 2 rows. Decrease 1 st at the beginning of the next 16 rows. Bind off remaining sts. Join sole on underside. Weave ribbon through openwork row.
