Materials for Set

13 ozs. CYNTHIA Germantown or 16 ozs. CYNTHIA Knitting Worsted Scarlet No. 310.
Circular needle No. 5 (3¾ MM).
One set double pointed needles No. 5 (3¾ MM).
Bone crochet hook No. 5.
Two ¾ inch button molds

Gauge: 6 sts = 1 inch

Cape

Cast on 331 sts on circular needle and K garter st (K every row) for 2 inches, then work ribbed stitch as follows: 1st row: K 7, P 2, * K 19, P 2, repeat from * 14 times, K 7. 2nd row: K 9, * P 19, K 2, repeat from * 14 times, K 7. Repeat 1st and 2nd rows three times. 9th row: K 7, * P 2, K 8, K 2 together, K 9, repeat from * 14 times, K 7 (316 sts). 10th row: K 9, * P 18, K 2, repeat from * 14 times, K 7. 11th row: K 7, P 2, * K 18, P 2, repeat from * 14 times, K 7. Repeat 10th and 11th rows twice. 16th row: Repeat 10th row. 17th row: K 7, * P 2, K 8, K 2 together, K 8, re­peat from * 14 times, K 7 (301 sts) . 18th row: K 9, * P 17, K 2, repeat from * 14 times, K 7. Continue decreasing 1 st in the center of each K rib every 8th row, always knitting the first and last 7 sts on each row until there are 4 K sts re­maining in each rib and cape measures 16 inches. Work even in pattern for 3 rows, then decrease 1 st in the center of each K rib across row. Work even for 3 more rows and bind off.

Collar: Pick up 71 sts on right side of work. 1st row: K 7, P 2, * K 3, P 2, repeat from * 10 times, K7. 2nd row: K 9, * P 3, K 2, repeat from * 10 times, K 7. Repeat 1st and 2nd rows once. Next row: Increase 1 st in center of each K rib. Contin­ue working, increasing 1 st in center of each K rib every 4th row until there are 6 sts in each K rib. Work even for 4 more rows, then work garter st for 9 rows. Bind off loosely. Crochet loop on right front edge at neckline. Crochet over a but­ton mold and attach button on left front edge, opposite loop.

Hat: Cast on 112 sts on three double pointed needles and work ribbing of K 6, P 2 for 2½ in­ches. Next round: decrease 1 st in the center of each K rib (98 sts). Work ribbing of K 5, P 2 for 8 rounds. Next round: decrease 1 st in center of each K rib (84 sts). Work ribbing of K 4, P 2 for 7 rounds: Next round: decrease 1 st in center of each K rib (70 sts). Work ribbing of K 3, P 2 for 5 rounds. Next round: decrease 1 st in center of each K rib (56 sts). Working ribbing of K 2, P 2 for 5 rounds. Next round: K 2 to­gether, P 2 together around, break yarn, leaving 4 inches to thread a needle, draw yarn through all sts and fasten on wrong side. Crochet over ¾ inch button mold and attach to crown of hat.
