MATERIALS:
CHADWICK'S RED HEART BABY BUNT­ING, 4 balls (¾ oz. balls).
CLARK'S O.N.T. "BRILLIANT," 1 ball.
Clark's O.N.T. Knitting Pins, 1 pair No. 2.
Steel Crochet Hook No. 8.
2 yards ribbon, ½ inch wide.

GAUGE: (Pattern Stitch) 9½ sts make 1 inch; 10 rows make 1 inch.
(Gar­ter Stitch) 7 sts make 1 inch; 7 ridges (14 rows) make 1 inch.

BACK … Starting at left side of yoke, cast on 14 sts. Work 13 rows of garter st (k each row). Break yarn and slip these sts onto a spare needle. For right side of yoke, cast on 14 sts and work 14 rows of garter st. Do not break yarn but cast on 24 sts for back of neck, then k across the 14 sts on spare needle (52 sts). Work straight in garter st for 1 inch, increasing 41 sts evenly across last row—to inc, k in the front and the back of 1 st (93 sts). Yoke is complete. Now work in pattern as follows: 1st row: K 1, * k 3 tog, then k 1, O, k 1, O, k 1 all into the next st, sl 1, k 2 tog, p,s.s.o. Repeat from * across, ending row with k 1. 2nd row: K across. 3rd row: K across. 4th row: P across. 5th and 6th rows: Same as 3rd and 4th rows. These 6 rows constitute the pattern. Repeat pattern until piece measures 3½ inches from back of neck, ending with the 3rd row. Cast on 7 sts for armholes at the end of the next 2 rows (107 sts). Con­tinue in pattern until piece measures 10 inches from back of neck, ending with the 2nd row of pattern. Bind off, purling the sts.

YOKE EDGING … 1st row: With right side facing using yarn, work a row of sc along cast-on edge of right yoke, along neck edge and along cast-on edge of left yoke. Fasten off. 2nd row: With wrong side facing, attach "Brilliant" in 1st sc, ch 1, sc in same place where thread was attached, sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn. 3rd row: Sc in 1st sc, * ch 4, sc in 3rd ch from hook, ch 1, skip 1 sc, sc in next sc. Repeat from * across. Fasten off.

RIGHT FRONT … Starting at yoke neck edge, cast on 34 sts. Work 2 rows of garter st, increasing 10 sts evenly across the 2nd row (44 sts). Now work in pattern st until piece measures 2½ inches. Cast on 7 sts for armhole at side edge and continue in pattern until piece measures 9 inches from cast-on sts, end­ing with 2nd row of pattern. Bind off, purling the sts.

LEFT FRONT … Work as for Right Front, being careful when casting on the sts for armhole to have them correspond with Right Front armhole. Starting at armhole edges, pin yoke edges of Back on top of corresponding edges of Fronts, having Edging overlap top of Fronts. Sew in place, leaving remainder of top front edges free for front of neck.

SLEEVES … With right side facing, pick up 72 sts along armhole edge, hav­ing 36 sts from underarm edge to center of Yoke on both back and front. 1st row: P across. Now work in pattern (starting with the 1st row of pattern) until piece measures 8 inches from picked up sts, ending with the 2nd row of pattern. Bind off, purling the sts. Sew underarm and sleeve seams in one continuous seam. With right side facing, work sc evenly along both front edges. Fasten off.

EDGING … 1st row: With wrong side facing, attach "Brilliant" at left front neck edge, work sc in each st and each sc along entire outer edge of garment to corresponding position on other side. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: Work as for 3rd row of Yoke Edging. Join and fasten off. Work Edging around lower edges of Sleeves.
   Cut 2 pieces of ribbon each 13½ inches long. Run each piece in and out of 2nd row of eyelets on lower edge of each sleeve. Make 2 loops at each end of re­maining 1¼ yards of ribbon and sew looped ends at neck edge. Cut ribbon at center for ties.
