DRESS
Skirt. The entire dress, excepting the straps, is worked in stockinette st (k 1 row, p 1 row). A double thread is used throughout—1 strand of each color. Starting at bottom of skirt, cast on 351 sts and work in stockinette st for 8½ inches. Then at end of next k row and every 3 inches thereafter make a buttonhole 3 sts in from edge (to make a buttonhole, on one row bind off 5 sts; and on next row cast on 5 sts to replace those bound off), until 8 buttonholes are made. Then on next row and every 1¼ inches thereafter decrease 9 sts at equal intervals until 207 sts remain. Work straight until work measures 30 inches or length desired. Bind off. Work 3 rows of s c all around edges of skirt, excepting waistline.
Halter. Starting at waistline, cast on 150 sts and work as for skirt, decreasing 1 st at end of each row until 66 sts remain. Work straight until work measures 11½ inches in all. Bind off. Work 3 rows of s c around sides and top of halter, easing in the extra fullness at both sides, so that side measures 14 inches. Sew halter and skirt together at waistline, having skirt extend 2½ inches beyond halter on both sides.
Straps: Starting at one end, cast on 12 sts and work in ribbing of k 1, p 1 for 20 inches. Bind off. Do not break off but make a ch-6 buttonloop across short side. Break off.
Sew on strap to each side of halter at neck. Cross straps in back and sew on a button on each side of halter, about 1 inch up from waistline.
Belt: Work as for straps for 31 inches.
BOLERO
Back. A double thread is used throughout—2 strands of dark color. Starting at bottom, cast on 114 sts and work in stockinette st straight for 7½ inches. To shape armholes, bind off 4 sts at beginning of each of next 4 rows. Then decrease 1 st at both ends of each row until 84 sts remain. Work straight until work measures 7 inches from 1st row of armhole shaping. To shape shoulders, bind off 3 sts at beginning of each row until 30 sts remain. Bind off loosely.
Right Front. Starting at bottom, cast on 40 sts and work as for back, increasing 1 st at end of each p row, and beginning at each k row until there are 50 sts on needle. Work straight until work measures 7½ inches.
To Shape Armhole: Bind off 4 sts at underarm edge twice (the curved edge is center front edge). Then decrease 1 st at armhole edge every row until 27 sts remain. Work straight until armhole measures the same as armhole of back. To shape shoulder, bind off 3 sts at armhole edge every other row until all sts are bound off.
Left Front. Work as for right front, reversing shapings.
Sleeves: Starting at bottom, cast on 70 sts and work as for back, increasing 1 st at both ends of every 4th row until there are 84 sts on needle. Work straight until work measures 3½ inches. To shape top of sleeve, bind off 3 sts at beginning of next 4 rows. Then, decrease 1 st at both ends of every 4th row until 44 sts remain. Now bind off 4 sts at beginning of each row until 20 sts remain. Bind off. Sew up underarm and shoulder seams. Sew up sleeve seams and sew sleeves in easing in any extra fullness at top of armhole. Make ½ inch hem all around bolero and sew in place. With light color work rows of running stitch all around hem ¼ inch apart for 4 rows. Finish sleeves in the same way.
