Size 16

MATERIALS – Fleisher's Brettonsheer; or Bear Brand or Bucilla Tricolaine; 8 skeins. Three Strand Gold Embroidery Thread, 4 small skeins.
1 pair Fleisher's or Bucilla 14-inch Steel Knitting Needles, Size 2.
1 Fleisher's or Bucilla Steel Crochet Hook, Size 2.
10 Gold Buttons 5/16 inch diameter. 10 doz. Gold Sequins 5/16 inch diameter.

IMPORTANT – Check your gauge first. These directions apply only when Fleisher's, Bear Brand or Bucilla Yarns are used as recommended.

GAUGE:
Pattern St – 7 sts = 1 in. 11 rows = 1 in.
Stockinette St – 15 sts = 2 ins. 11 rows = 1 in.

MEASUREMENTS FOR FINISHED GARMENT

Width of back at underarm 16 ¾ ins. Width of back at shoulders 12 ¾ ins. Width of each front at underarm 10 ¾ ins. including crochet edge. Length from lower edge to back neck edge 19 ins. Sleeves-Width below underarm 12 ½ ins.

SAMPLE OF PATTERN STITCH

Pattern is a multiple of 10 plus 9.

Cast on 29 sts.

First row (wrong side)-K 4, * p 1, k 4, repeat from * across row.

2nd row-P 4, * k 1, P 4, repeat from * across row. Repeat these 2 rows once, then repeat first row again.

6th row-P 4, k 5 times in next st (k first in front, then in back, front, back and front of st), p 4, * k 1, p 4, k 5 times in next st, p 4; repeat from * across row.

7th row-K 4, p 5, k 4, * p 1, k 4, p 5, k 4; repeat from * across row.

8th row-P 4, k 5, p 4, * k 1, p 4, k 5, p 4; repeat from * across row.

9th row-Same as 7th row.

10th row-P 4, p 5 tog, p 4, * k 1, p 4, p 5 tog, p 4; repeat from * across row.

Repeat first 5 rows once.

16th row-P 4, k 1, p 4, * k 5 times in next st, p 4, k 1, p 4, repeat from * across row.

17th row-K 4, p 1, k 4, * p 5, k 4, p 1, k 4; repeat from * across row.

18th row-P 4, k 1, p 4, * k 5, p 4, k 1, p 4; repeat from * across row.

19th row-Same as 17th row.

20th row-P 4, k 1, p 4, * p 5 tog, p 4, k 1, p 4; repeat from * across row.

Repeat these 20 rows of pattern for 4 ins.

Bind off. Measure sts and rows to verify gauge.

Note: No. of sts given in directions does not include extra sts increased for "dots."

BACK-Cast on 103 sts for lower edge.

First row (wrong side)-P 7, k 4, * p 1, k 4; repeat from * 16 times, p 7.

2nd row-K 7, p 4, * k 1, p 4; repeat from * 16 times, k 7.

Continue to work pattern as for sample for 20 rows in all, having 7 sts of stockinette st at each side of pattern panel.

21st row (decrease row)-P 7, k 4, p 1, * k 1, k 2 tog, k 1, p 1; repeat from * 15 times, k 4, p 7 (87 sts).

22nd row-K 7, p 4, k 1, * p 3, k 1, repeat from * 15 times, p 4, k 7.

Continue pattern in this way until 4 ins. from lower edge (3 sts in each of 16 center ribs and 4 sts in rib at each edge of panel), ending on right side.

Increase row-Increase 1 st in each of 16 center ribs (k in front, then in back of center st of each "3 st" rib; 103 sts).

Work 6 rows even. Increase 1 st each side of next row and repeat increases every 6th row 7 times, working increased sts in stockinette st and continuing pattern (119 sts).

Work even until 10 ½ ins. from lower edge, with 15 sts of stockinette st at each side.

Note: Be careful when binding off or decreasing not to increase sts for "dot" of pattern if sts will be bound off or decreased before dot is completed.

ARMHOLES-Bind off 8 sts at beginning of each of next 2 rows for underarm. Decrease 1 st each side every 2nd row 7 times (89 sts). Work even until 7 ins. above underarm.

SHOULDERS-Bind off 5 sts at beginning of each of next 2 rows, then 4 sts at beginning of each of next 12 rows (29 sts for each shoulder). Bind off 31 sts.

RIGHT FRONT-Cast on 69 sts.

First row (wrong side)-P 7, k 4, * p 1, k 4; repeat from * 6 times, p 23.

2nd row-K 23, p 4, * k 1, p 4; repeat from * 6 times, k 7.

Work 3 more rows as before, working pattern on 39 sts and stockinette st each side.

First buttonhole row-K 19, k 2 tog, y o for buttonhole, k 2, work pattern across 39 sts, k 7.

Work 14 rows even.

21st row (decrease row)-P 7, k 4, p 1, * k 1, k 2 tog, k 1, p 1; repeat from * 5 times, k 4, p 23 (63 sts). Work 3 rows even with 3 sts in each of 6 center ribs.

2nd buttonhole row-Work to within 3 sts of end, y o, p 2 tog, p 1. Repeat first and 2nd buttonhole rows alternately every 1 ¾ ins. (about 18 rows between buttonholes).

Work even until same length as back up to increase row.

Increase row-Increase 1 st in each of 6 center ribs as on back (69 sts).

Increase 8 sts at underarm edge as on back (77 sts). Shape armhole as on back when same length as back to underarm.

Work even until 5 ¾ ins. above underarm (there should be about 2 rows above 10th buttonhole), ending at front edge.

NECK AND SHOULDER SHAPING-Bind off 23 sts for neck edge.

Decrease 1 st at neck edge every 2nd row 10 times, shaping shoulder as on back when armhole is same length as on back.

LEFT FRONT-Cast on 69 sts,

First row (wrong side)-P 23 for front panel, work pattern across 39 sts, p 7.

Work to correspond to right front, shaping underarm and shoulder at beginning of rows worked from right side and omitting buttonholes.

SLEEVES-Cast on 69 sts for lower edge.

First row (wrong side)-P 10, k 4, p 1, * k 3, p 1; repeat from * 9 times, k 4, p 10.

2nd row-K 10, p 4, k 1, * p 3, k 1; repeat from * 9 times, p 4, k 10.

Continue pattern for 8 rows more, with 3 sts in each of 10 center ribs.

Increase row-Increase 1 st in each of 10 center ribs (79 sts). Work 2 rows even.

Increase 1 st each side of next row and repeat increases every 4th row 4 times (89 sts). Work even until 3 ins. above lower edge.

Bind off for underarm and shape same as back armholes (59 sts). Work even until 5 ¼ ins. above underarm.

Decrease 1 st each side of next row and repeat decreases every 2nd row twice. Bind off 2 sts at beginning of each of next 8 rows and 3 sts at beginning of next 2 rows. Bind off 31 sts.

FINISHING-Sew seams. Sew in sleeves with sleeve seam at center underarm, holding in fullness at top. Join yarn on left front edge at lower corner, work 1 s c in each st on lower edge, 3 s c at corner, 2 s c in every 3 rows on right front edge, 3 s c at corner, work s c around neck edge keeping work flat, 3 s c at corner, work left front edge to correspond; join. Ch 1, turn and work 2nd row s c on front and neck edges only, working 3 s c at corners. Fasten off. Work 1 row s c on lower edge of sleeves.

Steam. Sew a sequin at center of each pattern "dot" on sleeves, using Gold Thread. Sew buttons on left front panel so that right front panel will overlap left front panel. Sew snap fasteners at top corner of left front edge and lower corner of right front edge. Use shoulder pads No. 6, see patternbook page.

Note: Do not use hot iron on sequins.
