MATERIALS
BERNAT Cuddlespun (2 oz. skeins) — 3(4-4) Contrasting Color (C C); 4(5-5) Main Color (M C)
1 pair straight knitting needles No. 15 or any size needles which will give the stitch gauge given below
1 circular knitting needle No. 10½
½ yd 4 inch grosgrain ribbon
GAUGE: 3 sts =1 inch; 4 rows = 1 inch
PATTERN STITCH: Multiple of 2 sts.
Row 1: Using C C, * K 1, bring yarn to front of work and sl 1, throw yarn to back of work, repeat from * ending K 2.
Row 2: Using C C, purl.
Row 3: Using M C, K 2, * bring yarn to front of work and sl 1, throw yarn to back of work, K 1, repeat from * across row.
Row 4: Using M C, purl.
Repeat these 4 rows for pattern stitch.
BACK: Using No. 15 needles and M C, cast on 54(56-58) sts. P 1 row. Then work in pattern st until piece measures 13½(13½-14) inches. SHAPE ARMHOLES: At the beg of each of the next 2 rows bind off 4 sts. Dec 1 st each end of needle every other row 3 times. Work even in pattern st on 40(42-44) sts until armholes measure 7½(7¾-8) inches. SHAPE SHOULDERS: At the beg of each of the next 2 rows bind off 6(7-8) sts. At the beg of each of the next 2 rows bind off 7 sts. Bind off remaining 14 sts.
POCKET LINING: Make 2 pieces. Using No. 15 needles and M C, cast on 12 sts. P 1 row. Work even in pattern st for 8 rows, ending with Row 4. Sl these sts on a holder.
LEFT FRONT: Using No. 15 needles and M C, cast on 28 (30-32) sts. P 1 row. Work even in pattern st until piece measures 5 inches, ending with Row 4. POCKET OPENING: On the next row work 8(8-10) sts; sl next 12 sts on a holder; work in pattern st across 12 sts of pocket lining; work last 8(10-10) sts. Continue in pattern st until piece measures 13½(13½-14) inches, ending with same row as back at underarm. SHAPE ARMHOLE: At arm edge bind off 4 sts. Dec 1 st at same edge every other row 3 times. SHAPE NECK: On the next row at front edge dec 1 st and repeat this dec every other row until 13(14-15) sts remain. Work even until armhole measures 7½(7¾-8) inches. SHAPE SHOULDER: At arm edge bind off 6(7-8) sts once and 7 sts once.
RIGHT FRONT: Work to correspond to left front, reversing all shaping and pocket placing.
SLEEVES: Using circular needle and M C, cast on 28(30-32) sts. Working back and forth, K 1, P 1 in ribbing for 3 inches. Change to No. 15 needles and work in pattern st, inc 1 st each end of needle every 1 inch 6 times. Work even in pattern st on 40(42-44) sts until piece measures 13(13-13½) inches. SHAPE CAP: At the beg of each of the next 2 rows bind off 4 sts. Dec 1 st each end of needle every other row until 16 sts remain. At the beg of each of the next 6 rows bind off 2 sts. Bind off remaining sts.
FINISHING: Sew underarm, shoulder and sleeve seams. Set in sleeves. With right side facing you, using circular needle and M C and starting at lower left front edge, pick up 145(149-153) sts around front edges and neck. Working back and forth, K 1, P 1 in ribbing for 5 rows. Bind off. POCKET BANDS: Sl 12 sts from holder onto circular needle. Using M C, work back and forth in K 1, P 1 ribbing for 5 rows. Bind off. Steam. Using ribbon, make a pocket and sew to lower edge of jacket and pocket lining.
