MATERIAL:
8 (9-10) balls 4 ply Sweateryarn (1 oz. ball)
1 pair knitting needles No. 2 and No. 4
1 set sock needles No. 2
1 stitch holder

GAUGE: 6 sts. = 1 inch

PATTERN: Stock. st. throughout the entire sweater.

BACK: Cast on 100 (106-112) sts. with No. 2 needles and work in ribbing K2, P2 for 2½ inch., increasing 1 st. at the beg. and end of the last row of ribbing. Change to No. 4 needles and stock. st. With 102 (108-114) sts. work even until the entire piece measures 13½ (14-14½) inch, or any desired length to underarm. Bind off for armhole at the beg. of the next 2 rows 6 (7-8) sts., at the beg. of the next 2 rows 2 sts., decr. 1 st. at each armhole until 82 (88-94) sts. are left. Work even for 7¼  (7½) inch, from the first binding off. Bind off for shoulders at the beg. of the next 6 (4-8) rows 8 (13-7) sts., rem. 34 (36-38) sts. bind off for neck.

FRONT: Cast on 100 (106-112) sts. with No. 2 needles and work in ribbing K2, P2 for 2½ inch., increasing 4 sts. at even intervals across last row of ribbing. Change to No. 4 needles and stock. st. With 104 (110-116) sts. work even until the entire piece measures the same as back up to underarm. Bind off for armhole at the beg. of the next 2 rows 7 (8-9) sts. and at the beg. of the next 2 rows 2 sts., deer. 1 st. at each end of every other row until 82 (88-94) sts. are left. Work even for 5¼ (5½) inch, from the first binding off. Work across 30 (34-36) sts. and slip them to a holder, bind off 22 (20-22) sts. and work across rem. 30 (34-36) sts. Work over these 30 (34-36) sts. only and bind off at neck edge 2 sts. every other row until 24 (26-28) sts. are left over. Work as high as back and bind off at armhole edge 8 (13-7) sts. 3 (2-4) times. Connect yarn to other side of neck and finish to correspond.

SLEEVE: Cast on 68 (72-76) sts. with No. 2 needles and work in ribbing K2, P2 for 1 inch, increasing 4 sts. at even inter­vals across last row of ribbing. Change to No. 4 needles and stock. st. Incr. 1 st. at the beg. and at the end of every 4th row until 80 (84-88) sts. are on needle. Work even until the entire sleeve measures 4 (4¼-4½) inch, or any desired length to underarm. Bind off at the beg. of the next 2 rows 6 (7-8) sts. Decr. 1 st. at the beg. of. each row until 58 (62-68) sts. are left. Decr. 1 st. at the beg. and end of every 4th row until 44 (46-48) sts. are on needle. Bind off 2 sts. at the beg. of each row until 24 (26-28) sts. are left over. Bind off. Make the other sleeve to correspond.

FINISHING: Sew up side, shoulder and sleeve seams and sew in sleeves. Right side facing you, pick up with No. 2 sock needles 88 (92-96) sts. around the neck and work in rib­bing K2. P2 for 1 inch. Bind off loosely K as K and P as P. Steam lightly.
