Medium Size

REQUIREMENTS:
YARN: 3-ounces of 4-ply Knitting Worsted
NEEDLES: 1-set of 4 double pointed, size #3

GAUGE: 6 sts to an inch. 9 rounds make an inch.

   CUFF: Cast on 48 sts, (16 sts on each of 3 needles). Join, being careful not to twist the sts and work in ribbing of k 1, p 1, for 2½-inches.
   HAND: 1st to the 6th rounds inclusive: Knit each stitch around. 7th round: On the 1st needle, (thumb needle); k 2, inc. in next st, k 1, inc. in next st; knit to end of round. 8th and 9th rounds: Knit each stitch around. 10th round: Knit 2 place a marker on the needle; inc. in next st, k 3, inc. in next st, place a marker on the needle. (The stitches between the markers are the thumb sts). Knit to end of round. 11th and 12th rounds: Knit each st around. 13th round: Knit 2, inc. in next st, k 5, inc. in next st, knit to end of round. 14th and 15th rounds: Knit each stitch around. 16th round: Knit 2, inc. in next st, k 7, inc. in next st, knit to end of round. 17th and 18th rounds: Knit each st around. 19th round: Knit 2, inc. in next st, k 9, inc. in next st, knit to end of round. 20th and 21st rounds: Knit each st around. 22nd round: Knit 2, inc. in next st, k 11, inc. in next st, knit to end of round. Knit 3 rounds even. (60 sts on the needles).
   THUMB SEPARATION: Knit 2, slip the next 15 sts (those between the markers) onto a stitch holder to be worked later for the thumb; cast on 3 sts onto the needle with the 2 sts, (for stretch between thumb and palm of hand). Knit to end of round, (48 sts). Work around knitting each stitch on these 48 sts until the mitten when tried on, reaches to the tip of the little finger. Work as follows:
   TIP DECREASES: 1st round: * knit 4, k 2 tog; repeat from * around. 2nd, 3rd, 4th rounds: Knit each st around. 5th round: * knit 3, k 2 tog; repeat from * around. 6th, 7th rounds: Knit each st around. 8th round: * k 2, k 2 tog; repeat from * around. 9th round: Knit each st around. 10th round: Knit 1, k 2 tog, 8 times. 11th round: Knit each st around. 12th round: Knit 2 sts together, 8 times. Fasten off, leaving yarn about 9-inches long. Thread a needle with this yarn and draw it through the remaining sts. Fasten end tightly on the wrong side of work.
   THUMB: Place the 15 sts of the thumb onto needles, (17 sts on one needle, 8 sts on the other). With the third needle, pick up and knit 4 sts around the opening of thumb and continue to knit each st around until mitten when tried on, reaches ½-inch from tip of thumb. DECREASES: * knit 3, k 2 tog, repeat from * around. Knit one round even. 2nd dec: ** knit 1, k 2 tog, repeat from ** around until 6 sts remain Break off yarn, leaving about 7 inches and finish off as before. Make the other mitten the same way.
