4 (4-5) skeins Knitting Worsted or Orion Sayelle blue (2 oz. skein)
2 (2-2) skeins Knitting Worsted or Orion Sayelle red (2 oz. skein)
1 pair knitting needles each No. 6 and No. 8
1 crochet hook No. 6 or G
1 jacket zipper
12 (14-16) inch. long
1 yard ribbon for hat
GAUGE: 5 sts. = 1 inch
PATTERN:
1st row blue: K across row.
2nd row blue: P across row.
3rd row red: * K1, slip 1 (yarn in front of work) repeat from * across row end K1.
4th row red: K across row.
5th row blue: K across row.
6th row blue: P across row.
7th row red: * slip 1 (yarn in front of work), K1 repeat from * across row end slip 1.
8th row red: K across row.
Repeat these 8 rows for pattern.
BACK:
With blue and No. 6 needles cast on 55 (59-63) sts. and work in stock. st. for ¾ inch. K 1 row on wrong side to form hemline. Change to No. 8 needles and pattern. Work even for 16 rows. Change to stock. st. and work in blue only until the entire piece measures 8 (9-10) inch. or any des. length to underarm. Shape raglan armhole: bind off at the beg. of the next 2 rows 2 (3-3) sts., change to pattern and decr. for raglan. 1st row: K1, slip 1, K1, p.s.s.o., work in pattern to last 3 sts., K2 tog., K1, 2nd row: work back in pattern. Repeat these 2 rows 17 (18-19) times. Rem. 17 (17-19) sts. bind off for neck.
LEFT FRONT:
With blue and No. 6 needles cast on 29 (31-33) sts. and work in stock. st. for ¾ inch. K 1 row on wrong side to form hemline. Change to No. 8 needles and pattern. Work even for 16 rows. Change to stock. st. and work with blue only until the entire piece measures like back to underarm. Shape raglan armhole: bind off at the beg. of the next row 2 (3-3) sts. Change to pattern and decr. for raglan as on back 17 (18-19) times and at the same time when 11 (11-12) raglan decr. are completed (there are 16 (17-18) sts. on needle) bind off for neck 4 (4-5) sts. at center edge and then 2 sts. at neck edge twice (all sizes). Bind off rem. 2 sts. Work Right Front to correspond, reversing all shapings.
SLEEVE:
With blue and No. 6 needles cast on 33 (35-37) sts. and work in stock. st. for ¾ inch. K 1 row on wrong side to form hemline. Change to No. 8 needles and pattern. Work even for 16 rows. Change to stock. st. and work with blue only. Incr. 1 st. at the beg. and end of every 6th row until 41 (45-47) sts. are on needle. Work even until the entire sleeve measures 9 (9½-10) inch. or any des. length to underarm. Shape raglan cap: bind off at the beg. of the next 2 rows 2 (3-3) sts. Decr. for raglan as on back 17 (18-19) times. Bind off rem. 3 sts. (all sizes). Work the other sleeve to correspond.
FINISHING:
Sew up side and sleeve seams. Sew sleeves to front and back. Neckband: Right side facing you pick up with blue and No. 6 needles 42 (46-50) sts. around the neck and work in stock. st. for 6 rows (all sizes). K 1 row on wrong side to form hemline. Work 6 more rows stock. st. and bind off loosely. Fold neckband in half and sew to wrong side. With blue and No. 6 crochet hook work 2 rows s.c. along each front edge. Sew zipper in place and block to size.
HAT:
With blue and No. 8 needles cast on 67 (71-76) sts. K 1 row, P 1 row. Change to pattern and work even for 16 rows for cuff. Then change to stock st. reversing sides and work even for 4½ (5-5½) inch. Bind off 26 sts. (all sizes) at the beg. of the next 2 rows. On rem. 15 (19-28) sts. work even for 5 inch. (all sizes). Decr. 1 st at each end of every K row 3 times (all sizes). Bind off.
FINISHING:
Sew up back seams. Turn back cuff and work with blue 1 row s.c. around front of hat going through double thickness. Work 1 row s.c. around outer edge of cuff and 2 rows s.c. around bottom of hat. Sew ribbon in place and block to size.
