2 (3) balls Sportyarn (2 oz. ball)
1 pair knitting needles No. 2 and No. 4
GAUGE: 6 sts. = 1 inch
PATTERN: 1st row: * K5, P2, repeat from * across row, end K5.
2nd row: * P5, K2, repeat from * across row, end P5.
Repeat these 2 rows for pattern.
BACK: Cast on 80 (84) sts. with No. 2 needles and work in ribbing K1, P1 for 2½ inch., incr. 1 st. at the beg. and end of the last row of ribbing (incr. 5 sts. at even intervals across last row of ribbing). With 82 (89) sts. work even until the entire piece measures 9 (10) inch, or any desired length to underarm. Bind off for armhole at the beg. of the next 2 rows 6 (7) sts., at the beg. of the next 4 rows 2 sts. (decr. 1 st. on one side) (62 sts. left (66) sts. left). Work even for 7 (7½) inch, from the first binding off. Bind off for shoulders at the beg. of the next 6 (4) rows 6 (10) sts., on rem. 26 sts. work neckband K1, P1 on No. 2 needles for 6 rows. Bind off loosely K as K and P as P.
FRONT: Work front the same way as back until armhole is bound off. Work over 31 (33) sts. and slip them to a holder. Work over rem. 31 (33) sts. only and deer, for neck 1 st. at center edge every 3rd row until 18 (20) sts. are left over. Work as high as back and bind off for shoulder at armhole edge 6 (10) sts. 3 (2) times. Connect yarn to other side of neck and finish this side to correspond.
FINISHING: Right side facing you, pick up with No. 2 needles 71 (75) sts. around front of neck and work in ribbing K1, P1 for 6 rows, decr. 1 st. every other row before and after the center st. Bind off loosely K as K and P as P. Sew up shoulder seams and pick up for armhole the same way 100 (106) sts. Work in ribbing K1, P1 for 6 rows and bind off as neck. Sew side seams and steam lightly.
