Reliable Cardigan Pattern

A new twist on an old favorite ... with double yarn this short cardigan will be easy to own ... note the roomy pockets.

MATERIALS:
CHADWICK'S RED HEART KNITTING WORSTED (1 oz. balls or 2 oz. skeins). Size 12—17 oz. Size 14—19 oz. Size 16—20 oz. Size 18—23 oz.
Wooden knitting pins, 1 pair No. 13 (9¼ mm- size).

GAUGE: 3½ sts make 1 inch; 5 rows make 1 inch. Double yarn is used throughout. Sweater is worked in one piece up to the underarm.

POCKETS (Make 2) … Cast on (with double yarn) 18 sts. 1st row: K 2, p 2, k 2, p 6, k 2, p 2, k 2. 2nd row: K across. Repeat 1st and 2nd rows alternately until 5 rows have been com­pleted. 6th row: K 6, make a cable over next 6 sts, k 6. Repeat these 6 rows until piece measures 5 inches. Bind off.

Block to measurements given. Sew shoul­der, underarm and sleeve seams. Sew in sleeves. With single strand of yarn work 2 rows of sc around neck. Work 1 row of sc around pockets and sew on pockets as in illustration.
