Size 34
Materials: Clark's O.N.T. Boucle, 5 balls.
Milward's Casein knitting pins, 1 pair No. 5 (3¾ mm. size).
Milward's steel crochet hook No. 3.
A hook and eye.
Gauge: 4 sts make 1 inch; 6 rows make 1 inch.
Back. Starting at bottom, with No. 3 needles cast on 60 sts and work in ribbing of k 1, p 1, for 2½ inches. Next row: * K 3, k 2 together. Repeat from * across (48 sts on needle). Change to No. 5 needles and work as follows: 1st row: K across, threading over needle twice each time (instead of once). 2nd row: * K into 1st thread-over, drop next thread-over (thus a drop st is made). Repeat from * across. 3rd row: K across. These 3 rows constitute the pattern. Repeat these 3 rows, increasing 1 st at both ends of every 4th row until there are 76 sts on needle. Work straight until piece measures 12½ inches in all. To shape shoulders, bind off 3 sts at beginning of each row until 22 sts remain. Bind these off for back of neck.
Front. Starting at bottom, with No. 3 needles cast on 75 sts and work in ribbing for 2½ inches. Next row: * K 3, k 2 together. Repeat from * across (60 sts on needle). Change to No. 5 needles and work as for back, increasing 1 st at both ends of every 6th row until there are 72 sts on needle. Work straight until work measures 9½ inches in all. On next row work in pattern across 1st 36 sts, turn (thus starting center front opening). Work over these 36 sts making 2 more increases at side edge, keeping opposite edge straight (38 sts). Work straight until center front opening measures 3 inches in all. To shape neck, starting at center front, bind off 4 sts and continue as before. Hereafter work in pattern decreasing 1 st at neck edge every other row until 10 sts are decreased at neck edge. At the same time, when outer edge measures 13½ inches, shape shoulder by binding off 3 sts at outer edge every other row until all sts are worked off. Break off. Attach thread at base of opening and work opposite side to correspond. Measure off 6 inches from shoulder edge down both sides of back and front, mark with a pin (thus marking for sleeves). Sew up shoulder seams. Sew up underarm seams from pin marks to bottom of waistband, easing in any extra fullness of front into back 1½ inches from armhole. Work a row of s c all around sleeve edges, around neck edge and along center front opening.
Cord. For a cord about 50 inches long, measure off twenty 4½ yd. lengths of thread, twist tightly, then double the twisted strands and give them a second twist in the opposite direction. Sew cord around sleeves, all around neck edge and along both sides of neck opening. Fasten opening with hook and eye.
To block blouse, lay a padding on a table where the entire blouse can be spread out. Place a damp cloth over the padding. Place blouse over this cloth, wrong side out, stretch and pin all sides so that blouse measures 17 inches from shoulder edge to bottom of waistband, 21 inches from sleeve edge to sleeve edge across front and 34 inches for bust. Lay a wet cloth over the blouse and leave until thoroughly dry. Then press with a damp cloth and moderately hot iron. Remove pins.
