Diamond Bolero Pattern

Sizes: Small, Medium and Large

Materials Required:
AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY
"DAWN" WOOL and
NYLON FINGERING YARN or
"DAWN" NYLON or
NYLON POMPADOUR or
"DAWN" SWEATER & SOCK YARN
"SANFORLAN" WON'T SHRINK OUT OF FIT
6 (8, 9) ounces Lt. Blue or Baby Blue or color of your choice.
Knitting Needles: 1 pr. No. 2 or any size needle which will result in stitch gauge below.

Gauge: 8 sts = 1 inch; 11 rows = 1 inch.

Directions are given for Small size. Medium and Large sizes are given in parentheses.

Back: Cast on 120 (135, 150) stitches (sts).
1st Row. Knit (K) 5, * K2 together (tog), yarn over (y o), K 1, y o, slip (sl) 1, K 1, pass slip st over K st (p.s.s.o.), K 10, repeat from * to within last 10 sts, K 2 tog, y o, K 1, y o, sl 1, K 1, p.s.s.o., K 5.
2nd and all even Rows. Purl (P) across row.
3rd Row. K 4, * K 2 tog, y o, K 3, y o, sl 1, K 1, p.s.s.o., K 8, repeat from * to within last 11 sts, K 2 tog, y o, K 3, y o, sl 1, K 1, p.s.s.o., K 4.
5th Row. K 3, * K 2 tog, y o, K 5, y o, sl 1, K 1, p.s.s.o., K 6, repeat from * across row to within last 12 sts, K 2 tog, y o, K 5, y o, sl 1, K 1, p.s.s.o., K 3.
7th Row. K 5, * y o, sl 1, K 1, p.s.s.o., K 1, K 2 tog, y o, K 10, repeat from * to within last 10 sts, y o, sl 1, K 1, p.s.s.o., K 1, K 2 tog, y o, K 5.
9th Row. K 6, * y o, sl 1, K 2 tog, p.s.s.o., y o, K 12, repeat from * to within last 9 sts, y o, sl 1, K 2 tog, p.s.s.o., y o, K 6.
10th Row. P across row. (The 3rd to 10th rows form pattern).
Repeat pattern — (1, 2) times. Keeping pattern uni­form, work in pattern increasing 1 st at each end of every other row until there are 144 (159, 174) sts on needle ending with 10th row of pattern, cast on 78 (78, 78) sts.

Start Sleeves: Work in pattern across all sts. With a separate strand of yarn, cast on 78 (78, 78) sts on free needle, then continue in pattern across these sts, there will be 300 (315, 330) sts on needle. Work even in pattern until 7½ (7½, 8½) patterns have been completed from cast on sts.

Shoulders: Bind off 5 (5, 5) sts at the beginning of the next 32 (32, 30) rows.
Bind off 10 (11, 11) sts at the beginning of the next 10 (10, 12) rows.
Bind off remaining 40 (45, 48) sts.

Left Front: Cast on 35 (42, 50) sts and work in pattern as follows: K 5 (5, 5) sts, then K 2 tog, y o, K 1, y o, sl 1, K 1, p.s.s.o., K 10, 2 (2, 3) times. This completes row for Small and Large sizes. For Medium Size complete row as follows:
K 2 tog, y o, K 1, y o, sl 1, K 1, p.s.s.o., K 2.
2nd Row. Increase 1 st at beginning of row (Front edge), P across row.
3rd Row. K 4 sts, * K 2 tog, y o, K 3, y o, sl 1, K 1, p.s.s.o., K 8, repeat from * 2 (2, 3) times, then K 2 for Small size. For Medium size complete row as follows:
K 2 tog, y o, K 3, y o, sl 1, K 1, p.s.s.o., K 2. For Large size complete row as follows: K 2, then for all sizes, work as follows:
4th Row. Increase 1 st at beginning of row, P across row.
Keeping pattern uniform, work in this manner in­creasing 1 st at the beginning of every P row 23 (22, 22) more times, at the same time, when 1 (2, 3) pat­terns have been completed, increase 1 st at side edge every other row 12 times. When there are 63 (75, 86) sts on needles ending with 10th row of pattern, cast on 78 (78, 78) sts at end of this row.
Keeping pattern uniform continue to increase at Front edge if necessary in same manner until there are 150 (156, 164) sts on needles.
Work even for 5 patterns ending on 9th row of last pattern, then decrease 1 st at Front edge every 3rd row 20 (21, 23) times, at the same time when 7½ (7½, 8½) patterns have been completed from cast on sts, bind off at sleeve edge 5 sts at the beginning of every other row 16 (16, 15) times.
Bind off at sleeve edge 10 (11, 11) sts at the beginning of every other row 5 (5, 6) times.

Right Front. Work same as Left Front reversing the shaping.
Block each section.
Sew top of Sleeve and Shoulder seam.

Sleeve Band. With right side of work toward you, pick up 86 (86, 94) sts across sleeve edge.
Work next 6 rows in stockinette st (P 1 row, K 1 row).
Next Row. (Wrong side of work) K across row for hemline.
Next 8 Rows. Work in stockinette st. Bind off.
Sew Sleeve seams.
Turn back the Band on hemline and sew to wrong side of Sleeve.

Band: Cast on 20 sts.
1st Row. K 2 tog, K 7, increase 1 st in each of the next 2 sts, K 7, K 2 tog.
2nd Row. P across row.
Repeat these 2 rows until Band is long enough to reach all around Bolero. Bind off. Sew short ends to­gether on wrong side.

Finishing: Starting at right side seam and seam of Band, with right sides facing, sew one edge of Band to edge of Bolero.
Fold Band at center and sew other edge to Bolero on wrong side.
