These directions are for Size 10 to 12. Changes for Sizes 14 to 16 and 18 to 20 are in parentheses.

MATERIALS REQUIRED:

Columbia-Minerva Nylon and Wool Calibrette (2 oz skein) OR Columbia Minerva Calibar (2 oz skein) - Main Color (MC) 11(11-12) skeins and Contrasting Color (CC) 6(6-7) skeins

Knitting Needles: 1 pair each of "Boye" Sizes 11 and 13 - 14 inch

Gauge: 5 sts to 2 inches, 5 rows to 1 inch (pattern st - Size 13 needles)

1 "Boye" Aluminum Crochet Hook "G" (Size 5)

BLOCKING MEASUREMENTS:
Width across Back at underarm 19 ¼"(20 ¾"-22 ½")
Width across Back above armhole shaping 20 ¾"(22 ¾"-24")
Length from back of neck to start 27"(27 ½"-28 ½")
Width across Each Front at underarm 11 ½"(12 ¼"-13 ¼")
Width across Sleeve at upperarm 14 ¼"(14 ¼"-15 ¼")

PATTERN STITCH: (even no. of sts) With MC cast on sts. Row 1 - (Wrong side of work) With MC * P 1, yarn in back sl 1 as if to P, repeat from * across. Row 2 - With CC - K. Row 3 - With CC - P. Row 4 - With MC * insert needle under horizontal loop from first row and K loop tog with st on needle as 1 st (loop forms triangle), K next st, repeat from * across. Row 5 - With MC * yarn in back sl 1 as if to P, P 1, repeat from * across. Row 6 - With CC - K. Row 7 - With CC - P. Row 8 - With MC K 1, inserting needle under horizontal loop of Row 5, repeat from * of Row 4 across row. Repeat these 8 rows for pattern.

BACK: With MC and Size 11 needles cast on 59(63-67) sts. Work in ribbing of K 1, P 1, as follows: Row 1 - K 1, * P 1, K 1, repeat from * across. Row 2 - P 1, * K 1, P 1, repeat from * across. Repeat these 2 rows until work measures 4 ¾ inches from start, ending with Row 2. K 1 row, dec 11 sts evenly across row - 48(52-56) sts on needle. Change to Size 13 needles and work in pattern st. When work measures 17"(17 ½"-18") or desired length from start to underarm, To Shape Armholes: Cast on 2 sts at end of each of the next 2 rows, then work even until armholes measure 7"(7"-7 ½") measured straight from cast-on sts. To Shape Shoulders: Dec 1 st each side every row 10 times, then bind off 5(5-6) sts at beg of each of the next 4(2-4) rows, then bind off 0(6-0) sts at beg of next 0(2-0) rows. Bind off remaining 12(14-16) sts for back of neck.

FACING FOR LOWER LEFT FRONT AND POCKET: With MC and Size 11 needles cast on 30(32-34) sts. Work in stockinette st (P side is right side of work) for 4 ¾ inches, ending with P row. Bind off 2(4-6) sts at beg of next row (side edge), then sl next 18 sts onto first st holder for pocket facing and remaining 10 sts onto 2nd st holder for front facing to be worked later.

LEFT FRONT: With MC and Size 11 needles cast on 37(39-41) sts. Work in ribbing of K 1, P 1, for 4 ¾ inches, working last row of ribbing as follows: Work 16 sts, bind off next 18 sts in ribbing for pocket opening, work to end of row. Next row (right side of work) K 3(5-7) sts, K the 18 sts of pocket facing from 1st st holder, dec'ing 4 sts, then K to end of row, dec'ing 4 sts - 29(31-33) sts on needle. Change to Size 13 needles and work even in pattern st (ending Row 1 with P 1 and ending Row 4 with sl 1). When work measures same as Back to underarm, To Shape Armhole: Cast on 2 sts at side edge AND AT THE SAME TIME, To Shape Lapel: Inc 1 st at front edge, then inc 1 st at same edge every 8th row 4 times more. When armhole measures same as at Back, shape shoulder and neck at the same time as follows: To Shape Shoulder: Dec 1 st at armhole edge every row 10 times, then bind off 5(5-6) sts at same edge every other row 2(1-2) times, then bind off 0(6-0) sts 1 time AND AT THE SAME TIME, To Shape Neck: Bind off 10(11-12) sts at front edge, then dec 1 st at same edge every row 6 times. Place markers for 3 buttons at front edge, having first marker 2 inches from lower edge and 3rd marker 1 ½ inches below start of Lapel incs. LEFT FRONT FACING: Sl the 10 sts from st holder onto Size 11 needles. With MC K 1 row to reverse stockinette st and continue in stockinette st, inc 1 st at beg of K rows (inside edge) every 10th row 7(4-2) times, then inc 1 st at same edge every 8th row 3(7-10) times AND AT THE SAME TIME when facing measures same as front edge of Jacket, bind off 11(12-13) sts at front edge, then dec 1 st every other row 5 times. Work even on remaining 4 sts until facing measures same length as Jacket to last bound-off sts of shoulder. Bind off.

FACING FOR LOWER RIGHT FRONT AND POCKET: Cast on and work as for Left Front Facing and Pocket, working buttonhole to correspond with first marker as follows: (Right side of work) P 5, bind off 4 sts, P to end of row. Next row cast on 4 sts over the bound-off sts. When work measures 4 ¾ inches, ending with a K row, bind off and sl sts onto st holders same as for Left Front Facing.

RIGHT FRONT: Work to correspond with Left Front, working pocket, incs and decs at opposite sides and working buttonholes to correspond with markers as follows: (Right side of work) Work 4 sts, bind off 4 sts, work to end of row. Next row cast on 4 sts over the bound-off sts.

RIGHT FRONT FACING: Sl the 10 sts from st holder onto Size 11 needles and work to correspond with Left Front Facing. Work incs at opposite side and work 2 buttonholes to correspond with markers as follows: (Right side of work) K 5, bind off 4 sts, work to end of row. Next row cast on 4 sts over the bound-off sts.

SLEEVES: Starting at top of Sleeve, with MC and Size 13 needles cast on 36(36-38) sts. Work in pattern st, dec 1 st each side every 8th row 8(3-2) times, then every 10th row 0(4-5) times - 20(22-24) sts on needle. When work measures 15 ½"(16"-16 ½") from start, ending with Row of or 8 of pattern st, bind off, picking up loop from Row 1 or 5.

CUFFS: With MC and Size 11 needles cast on 25(27-29) sts. Work in ribbing of K 1, P 1, for 3 ½ inches, then bind off loosely in ribbing.

COLLAR: With MC and Size 11 needles cast on 14(16-18) sts. Work in stockinette st, casting on 4 sts at end of each of the next 4 rows, then cast on 2 sts at end of each of the next 2 rows, then inc 1 st each side every row 4 times - 42(44-46) sts on needle. When work measures 5 ½ inches from start, K 1 row on wrong side for turn of Collar. Work even for 3 inches, then dec 1 st each side every row 4 times, then bind off 2 sts at beg of each of the next 2 rows, then bind off 4 sts at beg of each of the next 4 rows. Bind off remaining 14(16-18) sts.

Sew shoulder seams. Sew Sleeves in place. Sew underarm and sleeve seams. Sew facings to front edge and across lower edge of Fronts. Sew inside edge of facings in place. Sew around buttonholes. Fold Collar and with MC work 1 row of s c at side edges through both thicknesses. Sew Collar to neck edge, starting and ending 4 inches in from edge of Lapels. Sew Cuffs to sleeve edges, having opening opposite sleeve seam. Sew cuff openings for 1 inch from sleeve edges.
