MATERIALS REQUIRED:
Columbia-Minerva Nylon and Wool Calibrette (2 oz skein) OR Columbia-Minerva Calibar (2 oz skein) Color 1 - 6(6-7-7-8) skeins and Color 2 - 5(5-6-6-7) skeins
Knitting Needles: 1 pair each of "Boye" Sizes 8 and 10 ½ - 14 inch
1 "Boye" cable needle
Gauge: 7 ½ sts to 2 inches, 5 rows to 1 inch (Size 10 ½ needles)
1 "Boye" Aluminum Crochet Hook "F" (Size 3 or 4)
BLOCKING MEASUREMENTS:
Width across Back at underarm 17"(18"-19"-20"-21")
Width across Back above armhole shaping 14 ½"(15 ½"-17"-18"-18 ¾")
Width across Each Front at underarm excluding front border 8 ¼"(8 ¾"-9 ¼"-10"-10 ½")
Length from back of neck to start excluding neckband 22 ½"(23"-23 ½"-24"-24 ½")
Width across Sleeve at upperarm 15"(16"-16"-17"-17")
PATTERN STITCH: (Multiple of 4 sts plus 3) With Color 1 cast on sts. Row 1 - With Color 2 K. Row 2 - With Color 2 P. Row 3 - With Color 1 * K 3, with yarn in front sl 1 as if to P, repeat from * across, ending K 3. Row 4 - With Color 1 * P 3, with yarn in front of work sl 1 as if to P, repeat from * across, ending P 3. Row 5 - With Color 2 K 1, * sl next 2 sts onto cable needle and hold in back of work, K 1 (sl st), then K the 2 sts from cable needle, K 1, repeat from * across, ending K 2. Row 6 - With Color 2 P. Rows 7 and 8 - Repeat Rows 3 and 4. Row 9 - With Color 2 K 3, * sl next st (sl st) onto cable needle and hold in front of work, K 2, then K the sl st from cable needle, K 1, repeat from * across row. Row 10 - With Color 2 P. Repeat from Row 3 for pattern.
BACK: With Size 8 needles and Color 1 cast on 63(67-71-75-79) sts. Work in ribbing of K 1, PI, for 1 inch. Change to Size 10 ½ needles. Join Color 2 and work in pattern st. When work measures 14"(14"-14 ½"-14 ½"-15") or desired length from start to underarm, To Shape Armholes: Bind off 4(4-4-4-5) sts at beg of each of the next 2 rows - 55(59-63-67-69) sts on needle. Continue in pattern st until armholes measure 7 ½"(8"-8"-8 ½"-8 ½") measured straight from bound-off sts at underarm. To Shape Shoulders: Bind off 6(6-7-7-7) sts at beg of each of the next 6(2-6-4-2) rows, then bind off 0(7-0-8-8) sts at beg of each of the next 0(4-0-2-4) rows and sl remaining 19(19-21-23-23) sts onto st holder for neck band.
LEFT FRONT: With Size 8 needles and Color 1 cast on 38(40-42-44-46) sts. Work in ribbing of P 1, K 1, for 1 inch. Change to Size 10 ½ needles, join Color 2 and work Rows 1 and 2 of pattern st, sl last 7 sts on st holder on Row 1 for front border. Row 3 - With Color 1 K 3(1-3-1-3), * with yarn in front of work sl 1 as if to P, K 3, repeat from * across. row. Row 4 - With Color 1 * P 3, with yarn in front of work sl 1 as if to P, repeat from * across, ending P 3(1-3-1-3). Row 5 - With Color 2 K 1(5-1-5-1), * sl 2 sts onto cable needle and hold in back of work, K 1 (sl st) , then K the 2 sts from cable needle, K 1, repeat from * across, ending K 2. Row 6 - With Color 2 P. Continue in pattern st in this manner. When work measures same as Back to underarm, To Shape Armhole: Bind off 4(4-4-4-5) sts at side edge. Work even until armhole measures 5 ½"(6"-6"-6 ½"-6 ½") measured straight from bound-off sts at underarm. To Shape Neck: Sl first 6 sts at front edge onto st holder, then dec 1 st at same edge every row 3(3-4-5-5) times. When armhole measures same as at Back, To Shape Shoulder: Bind off 6(6-7-7-7) sts at armhole edge every other row 3(1-3-2-1) times, then bind off 0(7-0-8-8) sts at same edge every other row 0(2-0-1-2) times.
LEFT FRONT BORDER: Sl the 7 sts of front border from st holder onto Size 8 needles. Continue in ribbing of P 1, K 1, until border is long enough to fit front edge of Left Front. Sl sts onto st holder for neckband. Place markers for 6 buttons on front border, having first marker 1 ¼ inches from lower edge and 6th marker about 2 inches below neck edge (7th button will be on neckband).
RIGHT FRONT: With Color 1 and Size 8 needles cast on same as for Left Front. Work in ribbing of K 1, P 1, for 1 inch, sl last 7 sts onto st holder for front border on last row. Change to Size 10 ½ needles, join Color 2 and work in pattern st to correspond with Left Front, working decs at opposite sides.
RIGHT FRONT BORDER: Work same as for left front border, working buttonholes to correspond with markers as follows: Work 3 sts from front edge, bind off 2 sts, work last 2 sts. On next row cast on 2 sts over the bound-off sts.
SLEEVES: With Color 1 and Size 8 needles cast on 35(35-39-39-43) sts. Work in ribbing of K 1, P 1, for 1 inch. Change to Size 10 ½ needles, join Color 2 and work in pattern st, inc 1 st each side, then inc every 6th row 10(7-10-7-10) times more, then every 4th row 0(5-0-5-0) times - 57(61-61-65-65) sts on needle. When work measures about 15"(15"-15 ½"-15 ½"-16") or desired length from start to underarm, ending with Row 1 or 5 of pattern st, P 1 row with Color 1. Bind off.
Sew shoulder seams. Sew Sleeves in place. Sew underarm and sleeve seams. Sew front borders in place.
NECKBAND: With Size 8 needles and Color 1 work across the 7 sts of right front border and the 6 sts of neck edge in ribbing, then pick up and K 11(12-13-14-15) sts to back of neck, work across the sts at back of neck in ribbing, pick up and K 11(12-13-14-15) sts at left neck edge to st holder, then work across the 6 sts and the 7 sts of front border in ribbing - 67(69-73-77-79) sts on needle. Work in ribbing of K 1, P 1, for 1 inch, working 7th buttonhole on right front border as before when neckband measures ½ inch from start. Bind off in ribbing.
Work 1 row of s c at front edges.
