MATERIALS
BERNAT Nylo Germantown (2 oz. skeins) — 6
1 pair straight knitting needles No. 10 OR ANY SIZE NEEDLES WHICH WILL GIVE THE STITCH GAUGE GIVEN BELOW
1 aluminum crochet hook No. 5/F
3 yds braid
GAUGE: 4 sts =1 inch; 6 rows = 1 inch
PATTERN STITCH: Multiple of 2 sts plus 1.
Row 1: K 1, * P 1, K 1, repeat from * across row.
Rows 2 and 4: Purl.
Row 3: P 1, * K 1, P 1, repeat from * across row.
Repeat these 4 rows for pattern stitch.
BACK: Cast on 53(57-61) sts. Work even in pattern st for 2 inches. Put a marker in work. On the next row inc 1 st each end of needle and repeat this inc every ¾ inch 8 times more. Work even on 71(75-79) sts until piece measures 9½(9½-10) inches. SHAPE ARMHOLES: At the beg of each of the next 2 rows bind off 5(6-6) sts. Dec 1 st each end of needle every other row 3 times. Work even in pattern st on 55(57-61) sts until armholes measure 7½(7¾-8) inches. SHAPE SHOULDERS: At the beg of each of the next 2 rows bind off 6(7-8) sts. At the beg of each of the next 4 rows bind off 6 sts. Bind off remaining 19(19-21) sts.
LEFT FRONT: Cast on 27(29-31) sts. Work even in pattern st for 2 inches. At arm edge put a marker in work. On the next row at arm edge inc 1 st and repeat this inc every ¾ inch 8 times more. Work even on 36(38-40) sts until piece measures 9½(9½-10) inches. SHAPE ARMHOLE: At arm edge bind off 5(6-6) sts. Dec 1 st at same edge every other row 3 times. Work even in pattern st on 28(29-31) sts until armhole measures 5¾(6-6¼) inches. SHAPE NECK: At front edge bind off 4(4-5) sts once and 2 sts 3 times. Work even on 18(19-20) sts until armhole measures 7½(7¾-8) inches. SHAPE SHOULDER: At arm edge bind off 6(7-8) sts once and 6 sts twice.
RIGHT FRONT: Work to correspond to left front, reversing all shaping.
SLEEVES: FIRST PIECE: Cast on 19(20-21) sts. Work even in pattern st for 2 inches, ending with a P row. Put these 19(20-21) sts on a holder. SECOND PIECE: Work to correspond to first piece. JOIN SLEEVE PIECES: Work in pattern st across 18(19-20) sts of second piece, inc 1 st in last st, work 19(20-21) sts of first piece to same needle. Continue in pattern st on 39(41-43) sts for 5 rows more. On the next row inc 1 st each end of needle and repeat this inc every 1½ inches 5 times more. Work even in pattern st on 51(53-55) sts until piece measures 13(13-13½) inches. SHAPE CAP: At the beg of each of the next 2 rows bind off 5(6-6) sts. Dec 1 st each end of needle every other row 5(6-7) times and every 4th row 4 times. At the beg of each of the next 6 rows bind off 2 sts. Bind off remaining sts.
COLLAR: Cast on 53(53-55) sts. Work in pattern st for 1½ inches, ending with a P row. P the next 2 rows to form hemline and continue in pattern st until piece measures 3 inches. Bind off.
FINISHING: Sew underarm seams above markers. Sew shoulder and sleeve seams. Set in sleeves. Fold collar on hemline and sew to neck edge to within 1 inch of each front edge. Work 1 row s c around entire jacket and sleeve edges. Block. Sew on braid as shown in photograph.
