AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY "DAWN" or "CLOVER LEAF" NYLON
or
"DAWN" BRAEBURN SPORT YARN
Size 12—5 ozs. White or color desired
Size 14—6 ozs.
and
1 oz. each of Scarlet and Medium Blue for all sizes
1 pr. knitting needles No. 3
Steel crochet hook No. 3
6 Buttons
Gauge: 7 sts = 1 inch.
Note: Entire slipon is worked vertically. Directions are given for size 12. Size 14 is given in brackets.
Pattern: 1st and 2nd Rows—With White, K across each row.
3rd Row—With White K 1, * Y O needle twice, K 1, repeat from * across row.
4th Row—K 1, * drop the 2 yarn over from needle without knitting them, K 1, repeat from * across row, drop White.
5th and 6th Rows—Attach Scarlet and K across each row, cut Scarlet.
7th and 8th Rows—Pick up White and K across each row.
9th and 10th Rows—Same as 3rd and 4th rows, drop White.
11th and 12th Rows—Attach Blue and K across each row, cut Blue.
These 12 rows are repeated for pattern.
BACK: Starting at sleeve with White cast on 41 (45) sts and work even in pattern increasing 1 st at the end of every other row for armhole edge 7 (7) times 48 (52) sts. Work 2 (4) rows even in pattern.
Next Row—Cast on 2 sts at end of row for shoulder edge.
Next Row—Cast on 13 sts at end of row at armhole edge, then cast on 13 sts every other row at armhole edge 4 times. Then cast on 7 (8) sts at armhole edge every other row twice, 129 (135) sts. This completes underarm shaping. Work even in pattern until there are 32 (34) rows from the beginning.
Next Row—Cast on 2 sts at shoulder edge, then keeping pattern even, cast on 2 sts at shoulder edge every 16th (18th) row twice, ending at neck edge, 135 (141) sts. This completes shoulder shaping. Work 36 (36) rows even in pattern for back of neck.
Next Row—Bind off 2 sts at neck edge. Then keeping pattern even and colors to correspond to opposite side, bind off 2 sts at shoulder edge every 16th (18th) row twice, 129 (135) sts. Work 2 rows even.
Next Row—Bind off 7 (8) sts at beginning of row at armhole edge. Work 1 row even.
Next Row—Bind off 7 (8) sts at armhole edge. Then bind off 13 sts at armhole edge every other row 5 times, 50 (54) sts.
Next Row—Bind off 2 sts at the beginning of row at shoulder edge. Work 2 (4) rows even. Then decrease 1 st at armhole edge every other row 7 (7) times, ending with same color as the beginning of opposite sleeve, 41 (45) sts. Bind off.
FRONT: Work same as back until 1st shoulder has been completed ending at neck edge.
Next Row—Bind off 16 (20) sts at neck edge, then bind off 2 sts at neck edge every other row 4 times. Work even in pattern for 14 (14) rows, ending at lower edge.
Next Row—Following pattern, K across 77 (83) sts, bind off remaining 34 (34) sts for center opening.
Next Row—With same color cast on 34 (34) sts and with same needle K across the 77 (83) sts. Keeping the pattern even and colors to correspond, work 14 (14) rows even. Then cast on 2 sts at neck edge every other row 4 times. Then cast on 16 (20) sts. Complete shoulder, underarm and sleeve to correspond. Block each section.
FINISHING: Sew side and shoulder seams matching the stripes. With White work 2 rows of s c across lower edge and around each sleeve.
NECK BAND: With right side of work toward you, attach White at neck edge and work 93 s c around neck edge, ch 1, turn.
Next Row—1 s c in each s c, ch 1, turn. Work 3 rows even, cut yarn.
Attach White at lower edge of right front opening, work 1 s c in same space, 1 s c in each of the next 33 sts, 1 s c over the end st of each of the next 5 rows, ch 1, turn. Work 1 row even.
Next Row—1 s c in next s c, * ch 2, skip 2 s c, 1 s c in each of the next 5 s c, repeat from * 4 times, ch 2, skip 2 s c, 1 s c in last s c (6 buttonholes), ch 1, turn. Work 1 s c in each s c and 1 s c in each st of ch of buttonholes, cut yarn. Work left side in same manner omitting the buttonholes.
COLLAR: With wrong side of work toward you, attach White in first st at neck edge and working around neck edge, work 1 s c in each s c, ch 1, turn.
Next Row—Increase in every 3rd st. Work 1 row even.
Next Row—Increase 14 sts evenly spaced. Work 7 rows even, cut yarn. Sew buttons in position.
