MATERIAL:
Pants: 2 balls Sportyarn (2 oz. ball) main color
Sweater: 2 balls Sportyarn (2 oz. ball) main color
1 ball Sportyarn (1 oz. ball) each in light and dark contrasting color
1 pair S.P. Knitting needles No. 2 (3 mm.) and No. 4 (3½ mm.)
1 bone crochet hook No. 3
2 snap fasteners
Elastic for waistband

GAUGE: 6½ sts. = 1 inch.

PANTS—BACK: With No. 2 needles cast on 76 sts. K1, P1 for 4 rows. Next row: * K1, P1, yarn over, P2 tog., repeat from * across row. K1, P1 for 6 more rows. Change to stock. st. and No. 4 needles and increase 4 sts. at even intervals across row. Work even and increase 1 st. at the beg. and end of the K row every ½ inch, until 94 sts. on needle. Work even until piece measures 8½ inch. or any des. length to crotch. Then start crotch: K46, incr. 1 st., K2, incr. 1 st., K46. P back. Next row: K47, incr. 1 st., K2, incr. 1 st., K 47, P back. Next row: K48, incr. 1 st., K2, increase 1 st., K 48, P back. Go on this way increasing 1 st. before and after the center K2 sts. every other row 10 times. Then divide the sts. in half (57 sts. on each side) and slip one side to a holder. K2 sts. tog. every K row on crotch side 10 times, then work stock. st. for 6 rows. Bind off. Work the other side to correspond. Work FRONT of pants the same way. Sew side and crotch seams tog. and turn up ½ inch. hem around legs. Pull elastic through waistband.

SWEATER—BACK: Cast on 78 sts. with No. 2 needles and m. c. Work in ribbing K1, P1 for 2 inch., increasing 4 sts. at even inter­vals across last row. Change to No. 4 needles and work stripe pattern in stock. st. as follows: 4 rows m. c.; 4 rows first c. c.; 2 rows m. c.; 2 rows 2nd c. c.; 2 rows m. c.; 2 rows 2nd c. c.; 4 rows first c. c. With 82 sts. work even until the entire piece measures 9 inch. or any desired length to underarm. Bind off for armhole at the beg. of the next 2 rows 6 sts., at the beg. of the next 2 rows 2 sts. (66 sts. left.) Work even for 5½ inch. from the first binding off. Bind off for shoulders at the beg. of the next 4 rows 10 sts., rem. 26 sts. bind off for neck.

FRONT: Work front the same way as back until 4 inch. from the first binding off. Work 24 sts. and slip them to a stitch holder. Bind off for neck 18 sts. in center and work over rem. 24 sts. Bind off 2 sts. at neck edge every other row until 20 sts. are left over. Work as high as back and bind off for shoulder 10 sts. twice at armhole edge. Work the other side of neck to correspond.

SLEEVE: Cast on 46 sts. with No. 2 needles and m. c. Work in ribbing K1, P1 for 2 inch., increasing 4 sts. at even inter­vals across last row. Change to No. 4 needles and stock. st. Incr. 1 st. at the beg. and at the end of every 6th row until 66 sts. on needle. Work even until the entire sleeve measures 11½ inch. or any des. length to underarm. Bind off at the beg. of the next 2 rows 3 sts. Decr. 1 st. at the beg. of each row until 56 sts. left. Decr. 1 st. at the beg. and end of every 4th row until 48 sts. are left. Bind off 2 sts. at the beg. of each row until 28 sts. are left over. Bind off. Work the other sleeve to correspond.

FINISHING: Sew up side and sleeve seams. Sew up left shoulder seam and ½ inch of right shoulder seam. Sew in sleeves. Right side facing you, pick up with No. 2 needles and m. c. 68 sts. around the neck and K1, P1 for 6 rows. Bind off loosely K as K and P as P. Crochet 4 rows s. c. in front and back of shoulder opening. Sew 2 snap fasteners to opening. Steam lightly.
