Slip-On Sweater Pattern

Size 8 to 10 years

MATERIAL:
4 balls Sportyarn (2 oz. balls)
1 pair S.P, knitting needles No. 2 (3 mm.) and No. 4 (3½ mm.)
1 set D.P. knitting needles No. 2 (3 mm.)

GAUGE: 6½ sts. = 1 inch

PATTERN: multiple of 12 + 8
1st to 4th row incl.: Stock. st.
5th row: * K8, insert needle in first row of 3rd st. on left hand needle and pull up a loop, K2, insert needle in same space and pull up a loop, K2, insert needle in same space and pull up a loop, repeat from * across row, end K8.
6th row: * P8, P2 tog. (which is the loop and the st.). P1, P2 tog., P1, P2 tog., P7, repeat from * across row, end P7.
7th to 14th row incl.: Work stock. st.
15th row: K2, * insert needle 3 rows below 3rd st. on left hand needle, pull up a loop, K2, insert needle in same space, pull up a loop, K2, insert needle in same space, pull up a loop, K8, repeat from * across row, end K2.
16th row: P2, * P2 tog., P1, P2 tog., P1, P2 tog., P7, repeat from * all across row, end P1.
17th to 20th row incl.: Work stock. st.
Repeat these 20 rows for pattern.

BACK: Cast on 100 sts. with No. 2 needles and work in ribbing K1, P1 for 2½ inch. Incr. 4 sts. at even intervals across last row. Change to No. 4 needles and pattern. With 104 sts, work even until the entire piece measures 12 inch or any desired length to underarm. Bind off for armhole at the beg. of the next 2 rows 6 sts., at the beg. of the next 2 rows 2 sts., dec. 1 st. at the beg. of each row until 82 sts. are left. Work even for 6¼ inch, from the first binding off. Bind off for shoulders at the beg. of the next 4 rows 13 sts, rem. 30 sts. bind off for neck.

FRONT: Work front the same way as back until 4¼ inch, above armhole bind off. Work 32 sts. and put them on a holder. Bind off for neck 18 sts. and work over rem. 32 sts. Bind off 2 sts. at neck edge every other row until 26 sts. are left over. Work as high as back and bind off for shoulder at armhole edge, 13 sts. twice. Work the other part of the neck to correspond.

SLEEVE: Cast on 48 sts. with No; 2 needles and work in ribbing K1, P1 for 2¼ inch. Incr. 8 sts. at even intervals across last row. Change to No. 4 needles and pattern. Incr. 1 st. at the beg. and at the end of every 6th row until 74 sts. on needle. Work even until the whole sleeve measures 15 inch. or any des. length to underarm. Bind off at the beg. of the next 2 rows 5 sts. Decr. 1 st. at the beg. of each row until 60 sts. are left. Decr. 1 st. at the beg. and end of every 4th row until 52 sts. are left. Bind off 2 sts. at the beg. of each row until 28 sts, are left over. Bind off. Work the other sleeve to correspond.

FINISHING: Sew up side, shoulder and sleeve seams and sew in sleeves. Right side facing you, pick up with No. 2 sock needles 102 sts. and work in ribbing K1, P1, for 7 rounds. Bind off loosely K as K and P as P. Steam lightly.
