MATERIALS: Beehive Scotch Fingering Yarn, Patonised Shrink-resist Finish, 3 Ply (1 oz. skeins): Size 12 — 25 skeins of Fleck No. 1260; Size 14 — 26 skeins; Size 16 — 27 skeins ... Royal Society Aluminum or Plastic Knitting Needles. 1 pair No. 2 (2¾ mm. size) ... Royal Society 29-inch Steel Circular Knitting Needle No. 2 (2¾ mm. size) ... Steel Crochet Hook No. 1 ... Crown Zippers, 5-inch length, 6-inch length and 7-inch length (skirt placket) ... 2 buttons ... Snap fasteners.

GAUGE: 8 sts measure 1 inch; 10 rows measure 1 inch.

BLOUSE

BACK ... Starting at lower edge with knitting needles, cast on 165 (173, 181) sts. Work in stockinette st. knit 1 row, purl 1 row, for 7 rows. Next row: Knit across (hemline). Now work in pattern as follows: 1st row: Knit into back of each st across. 2nd row: Purl across. Repeat these 2 rows alternately until piece measures 1½, inches from hemline, ending with a purl row.

1st decrease row: K 12 (16, 20), k 2 tog, * k 18. k 2 tog. Repeat from * 6 more times, k 11 (15. 19). Now decrease on one row every 1½ inches as follows, always ending with a purl row. 2nd decrease row: K 11 (15, 19). k 2 tog. * k 2 tog. k 17. Repeat from * 6 more times, k 11 (15. 19). 3rd decrease row: K 11 (15, 19). k 2 tog, * k 16, k 2 tog. Repeat from * 6 more times, k 10 (14, 18). Now decrease every inch as follows: 4th decrease row: K 10 (14, 18), k 2 tog, * k 15, k 2 tog. Repeat from * across 6 more times, k 10 (14, 18). 5th decrease row: K 10 (14, 18), k 2 tog. * k 14, k 2 tog. Repeat from * across 6 more times, k 9 (13, 17). 6th decrease row: K 9 (13, 17), k 2 tog, * k 13, k 2 tog. Repeat from * 6 more times, k 9 (13, 17). There are on needle 117 (125, 133) sts.

Work without decreasing until piece measures 8 inches from hemline ending with a purl row.

Now work as follows: 1st row: K 2 tog, * sl 2, k 1. Repeat from * across to last 4 (3, 2) sts. sl 2, k 2 tog (sl 1, k 2 tog, k 2 tog). 2nd row: Purl across. 3rd row: K 1, * sl 2. k 1. Repeat from * across to last — (2, 1) sts, slip — (2, 1) sts. Repeat 2nd and 3rd rows alternately until piece measures 9 inches from hemline. Continue in pattern as before, increasing 1 st at both ends of every 6th row until there are on needle 129 (137, 145) sts. Work without increasing until piece measures from hemline 15½ (15½,16) inches. Bind off.

BACK YOKE ... Cast on 130 (138, 146) sts. Work in stockinette st for 5 rows. Next row: Knit across (hemline).

Change to circular knitting needle and cast on at the beginning of next 2 rows for sleeves 128 (132, 136) sts. There are on needle 386 (402. 418) sts. Continue in pattern as before, increasing 1 st at both ends of every 4th row, until there are on needle 404 (422. 438) sts. Work without increasing until piece measures from hemline 4 (4½, 5) inches.

Back Opening: With knitting needles work across 202 (211, 219) sts. Turn and work over these sts only. Cast on 2 sts at the beginning of next row. Continue in pattern until cuff edge measures 4 (4½, 4½) inches, ending with a purl row.

To Shape Sleeve: Bind off 5 sts at the beginning of next row (cuff edge) and every other row until there remain 69 (71,74) sts, ending with a purl row. Bind off 10 sts at the beginning of next row and the following knit row. Bind off remaining 49 (51, 54) sts.

Attach yarn to other side, cast on 2 sts at neck opening and work to correspond, reversing shapings.

FRONT ... Work as for Back until piece measures from hem­line 15½ (15½,16) inches. There are on needle 129 (137,145) sts.

To Shape Armholes: Bind off 4 sts at the beginning of next 2 rows. Decrease 1 st at end of each row until there remain 107 (115, 123) sts. Work without decreasing until piece measures 3 inches from first row of armhole shaping. Bind off at the beginning of next 2 rows 41 (44, 46) sts. Work over the remaining 25 (27, 31) sts for 4¼ inches. Bind off.

RIGHT SLEEVE AND RIGHT FRONT YOKE ... Cast on 128 (132, 136) sts and purl across. Work in pattern, increasing 1 st at the beginning of next row and every other row 11 times

At the Same Time

increase 1 st at opposite end (cuff edge) every 4th row 9 times. When piece measures 3 inches, ending with a purl row, lay this piece aside.

With separate knitting needles, cast on 44 (47, 49) sts. Work in stockinette st for 5 rows. Next row: knit across (hemline). Following row: Work across. With same needle work across the sleeve sts. Continue as before until increases are com­pleted. There are on needle 192 (199, 205) sts. Work with­out increasing until piece measures at cuff edge, ending with a knit row 4 (4½, 4½ ) inches.

To Shape Sleeve: Bind off 5 sts at the beginning of next row and every other row 27 (28, 29) times. Bind off 10 sts at cuff edge every other row twice

At the Same Time

when piece measures 4½  inches from hemline, ending at neck edge, bind off 2 sts at the beginning of next row and every other row 2 (3, 3) times. Decrease 1 st at neck edge every other row 7 times. Bind off remaining 26 (26, 27) sts.

LEFT SLEEVE AND LEFT FRONT YOKE ... Work as for Right Sleeve and Front Yoke, reversing shapings.

Block to measurements. Turn hems of yoke and lower edge to wrong side and sew in place. Sew back yoke to back overlapping hem. Sew front yokes in place overlapping hems and front edges. Sew side seams leaving 5 inches free at left side, 5 inches from hem. Sew sleeve and shoulder seams. Turn narrow hems to wrong side and sew in place at zipper openings. Turn narrow hem to wrong side at cuffs and sew in place. Make a row of sc around neck opening, turn and sl st in each sc around. Break off. Sew on buttons at front panel. Sew in zippers.
SKIRT

BACK ... Starting at lower edge with knitting pins, cast on 196 (202, 208) sts. Work in stockinette st for 7 rows. Next row: Knit across (hemline). Work in pattern until piece measures 3 inches from hemline, ending with a purl row.

1st decrease row: K 13 (16, 19) sts, k 2 tog, (k 22, k 2 tog) 7 times; k 13 (16, 19) sts. Continue in pattern decreasing every 3 inches as follows, always ending with a purl row. 2nd decrease row: K 12 (15, 18) sts, k 2 tog, (k 21, k 2 tog) 7 times; k 13 (16, 19) sts. 3rd decrease row: K 12 (15, 18) sts, k 2 tog, (k 20, k 2 tog) 7 times; k 12 (15, 18) sts. 4th decrease row: K 11 (14, 17) sts, k 2 tog, (k 19, k 2 tog) 7 times; k 12 (15, 18). Work without decreasing for 5 inches, ending with a purl row. 5th decrease row: K 11 (14, 17) sts, k 2 tog, (k 18, k 2 tog) 7 times; k 11 (14, 17) sts. Work without decreasing for 5 inches, ending with a purl row. 6th decrease row: K 10 (13, 16) sts, k 2 tog, (k 17, k 2 tog) 7 times; k 11 (14, 17) sts. Now decrease on one row every 1½ inches. 7th decrease row: K 10 (13, 16) sts, k 2 tog, (k 16, k 2 tog) 7 times; k 10 (13, 16) sts. 8th decrease row: K 9 (12, 15) sts, k 2 tog, (k 15, k 2 tog) 7 times; k 10 (13, 16) sts. 9th decrease row: K 9 (12, 15) sts, k 2 tog, (k 14, k 2 tog) 7 times; k 9 (12, 15) sts. 10th decrease row: K 8 (11, 14) sts, k 2 tog, (k 13, k 2 tog) 7 times; k 9 (12, 15) sts. Work without decreasing for 1 inch. 11th decrease row: K 8 (11, 14) sts, k 2 tog, (k 12, k 2 tog) 7 times; k 8 (11, 14) sts. Work without decreasing until piece measures 20¾ (30½, 31) inches from hemline. Bind off.

FRONT ... Work exactly as for Back.

Block to measurements. Sew side seams, leaving 7 inches free at top of left side for zipper. Turn hem to wrong side and sew in place. Turn narrow hems to wrong side at zipper opening and sew in place. Sew ribbon on wrong side to waist. Sew in zipper. Sew on snap fasteners at waist.
