CLARK'S O.N.T. or J. & P. COATS PEARL COTTON, size 5.
Sizes 6 and 7—5 balls.
Size 8—6 balls.
Size 9—7 balls.
4 double-pointed steel needles No. 13.
GAUGE: 9 sts make 1 inch; 15 rnds make 1 inch.
Sizes: 6 (7, 8, 9) Changes in parentheses.
Starting at wrist, cast on 56 sts (64 sts, 72 sts, 80 sts).
Join, being careful not to twist sts, and work in ribbing of k 2, p 2, for 3 inches. Then work in pattern as follows: 1st and 2nd rnds: K around. 3rd rnd: * K 1, p 1. Repeat from * around. These 3 rnds constitute the pattern. Work in pattern until piece measures 4 inches in all. Next rnd: Work in pattern across 1st 12 sts of 1st needle, inc 2 sts in the next st—to inc 2 sts, k 1, p 1 and k 1 all into the one st—finish rnd. Work 1 rnd straight. Following rnd: Work in pattern across 1st 12 sts, inc 1 st in the next st, k 1, inc 1 st in the next st (thus starting thumb gore); finish rnd. Work 1 rnd straight. Next rnd: Work in pattern across 1st 12 sts, inc in next st, work in pattern across next 3 sts, inc in next st; finish rnd. Continue thus, increasing 2 sts in thumb gore on every other rnd until there are on needles 78 sts (86 sts, 93 sts, 106 sts).
Next rnd: Work in pattern across 1st 12 sts, transfer onto a safety pin the next 23 sts (23 sts, 27 sts, 27 sts) (to be worked later for thumb), cast on 3 sts and complete rnd.
Hereafter work in pattern over these 58 sts (66 sts, 74 sts, 82 sts) until glove, when tried on, reaches to the base between the middle and ring fingers. Put glove on and mark fingers by putting a safety pin on palm and back of hand between each finger, having for:
Forefinger 15 sts (17 sts, 19 sts, 21 sts)
Middle finger 15 sts (17 sts, 19 sts, 21 sts)
Ring finger 14 sts (16 sts, 18 sts, 20 sts)
Little finger 14 sts (16 sts, 18 sts, 23 sts)
Place all sts except those for forefinger onto a stitch holder.
FOREFINGER ... Place these sts on 3 needles. Attach thread to sts on palm side and work in pattern around, casting on between forefinger and middle finger 5 sts (5 sts, 3 sts, 3 sts).
Work around in pattern until glove, when tried on, reaches ¼ inch from fingertip, or about 2¾" (2¾", 3", 3").
Then * k 3, k 2 tog. Repeat from * around. Work 1 rnd straight. Now ** k 1, k 2 tog. Repeat from ** around until 6 sts remain. Break off, leaving a 6-inch end of thread. Slip remaining 6 sts onto this thread, draw together and fasten securely on wrong side.
MIDDLE FINGER ... Attach thread to sts of middle finger on palm side. Work in pattern across, pick up at base of forefinger 5 sts (5 sts, 3 sts, 3 sts). Continue across back of hand, cast on 4 sts.
Work straight until finger measures ¼ inch from fingertip or about 3" (3", 3¼ ", 3¼"). Finish as for forefinger.
RING FINGER ... Attach thread to sts of ring finger on palm side. Work in pattern across, pick up 4 sts at base of middle finger, continue across back of hand, cast on 4 sts. Finish as for forefinger.
LITTLE FINGER ... Attach thread to palm side, pick up 4 sts at base of ring finger. Work straight until finger measures ¼ inch from tip or about 2" (2", 2¼", 2¼"). Finish as for forefinger.
THUMB ... Transfer the thumb sts onto 2 needles, pick up 3 sts across cast-on sts with 3rd needle. Work as for little finger.
RIGHT HAND ... Work to correspond with Left Hand.
