10 skeins Knitting Worsted (4 oz. skein)
1 pair knitting needles No. 8
GAUGE: 9 sts. = 2 inch
PATTERN:
1st row: K3, * y.o., K1, y.o. twice, K1, y.o. 3 times, K1, y.o. 4 times, K1, y.o. 3 times, K1, y.o. twice, K1, y.o., K6 repeat from * across row, end K3.
2nd row: K across row dropping all y.o. of previous row.
3rd and 4th row: K across row.
5th row: K9, * y.o., K1, y.o. twice, K1, y.o. 3 times, K1, y.o. 4 times, K1, y.o. 3 times, K1, y.o. twice, K1, y.o. K6, repeat from * across row, end K9.
6th row: Work as 2nd row.
7th and 8th row: K across row.
Repeat these 8 rows for pattern.
STRIP:
With No. 8 needles cast on 36 sts. and work in garter st. for 4 rows. Change to pattern and work even until piece measures 65 inch., ending with 8th row. K2 rows and bind off. Make 5 more strips the same way.
FINISHING:
Sew the 6 strips tog. with an overhand st. on wrong side. Fringe: Wind yarn around a 10 inch cardboard and cut at one end. Tie a 6 strand fringe in every 3rd stitch. * Take 3 strands of one fringe and 3 strands of the next fringe and make a knot 1½ inch, below last knot. Repeat from * across row. Fringe other end of afghan the same way. Trim edges of fringe evenly and block to size.
