7 skeins Baby Yarn, Orlon or Wintuk Baby Yarn (1 oz. skein)
1 pair knitting needles No. 3, 14 inch long

Saque and Hat:
3 skeins Baby Yarn, Orlon or Wintuk Baby Yarn (1 oz. skein)
1 pair knitting needles No. 3, 10 inch. long
3 stitch holders
1 crochet hook No. 3 or D
3 buttons
Ribbon for trimming

GAUGE: 7 sts. = 1 inch

PATTERN:
1st row: * K5, y.o., K2, y.o. repeat from * across row end K5
2nd and 4th row: P across row
3rd row: * K5, P2 tog., P2 tog. repeat from * across row end K5
Repeat these 4 rows for pattern.

CARRIAGE COVER:
With No. 3 needles cast on 187 sts. and work in seed st. for 1 inch. Change to pattern keeping the first and last 7 sts. on needle in seed st. for border and rem. 173 sts. in pattern until piece measures 31 inch. Change to seed st. and work 187 sts. in seed st. for 1 inch. Bind off in pattern.

FINISHING:
With No. 3 crochet hook, right side facing you work 2 rows s.c. around cover, working 3 s.c. in each corner st. Work 1 row picot around the entire cover. Fasten off. Block to size.

JACKET:
Cast on 147 sts. with No. 3 needles and work in seed st. for 6 rows. Incr. 1 st. at end of last row. Change to pattern and keep the first and last 5 sts. on needle in seed st. for border and the rem. 138 sts. work in pattern until the entire piece measures 5½ inch. from the beg. ending with 3rd row. Next row: work in pattern across 33 sts. for 1st front, bind off next 8 sts. for armhole, work across next 66 sts. for back, bind off next 8 sts. for armhole, work in pattern across rem. 33 sts. for 2nd front. Slip these sts. to a holder.

SLEEVE:
Cast on 41 sts. with No. 3 needles and work in seed st. for 6 rows. Incr. 6 sts. at even intervals across last row (47 sts. on needle). Change to pattern and work even for 3 inch. Incr. 1 st. at each end of needle once (K6 each end). Work even until sleeve measures 5 inch. from beg. ending with 3rd row. Bind off 4 sts. at beg. of the next 2 rows, rem. 41 sts. slip to a holder. Work the 2nd sleeve to correspond.

NOTE: For boys work buttonholes in left front border, for girls work buttonholes in right front border. (To make a buttonhole: K1, P1, bind off 2 sts., work to end of row. On next row cast on 2 sts. over the 2 bound off sts. of previous row.) Make 1st buttonhole in 1st row of yoke, work 10 rows, make 2nd buttonhole in next row, work 10 rows, make 3rd buttonhole in next row.

YOKE:
Attach yarn to right front and work as follows: K across 33 sts. of first front (keeping 5 sts. in seed st. for border as before), K across 41 sts. of first sleeve, K across 66 sts. of back and decr. 1 st. in center of back, K across 41 sts. of 2nd sleeve, K across 33 sts. of 2nd front (keep­ing 5 sts. in seed st. for border as before). There are 213 sts. all together on needle.
1st row wrong side: Work 5 sts. in seed st., work in pattern K3, P1 across row on 203 sts. and work the last 5 sts. on needle in seed st.
2nd row right side: Work 5 sts. in seed st., work in pattern P3, K1 across row on 203 sts. and work the last 5 sts. on needle in seed st.
Cont. to work this way for 7 more rows.
1st decr. row: Work 5 sts. in seed st. * P2 tog., P1, K1 repeat from * across row end P2 tog., P1, work last 5 sts. in seed st. (162 sts.)
Next row: Work 5 sts. in seed st. * K2, P1 repeat from * across row end K2, work last 5 sts. in seed st.
Next row: Work 5 sts. in seed st. * P2, K1 repeat from * across row end P2, work last 5 sts. in seed st.
Repeat these 2 rows once more.
2nd decr. row: Work 5 sts. in seed st. * P2 tog., K1 repeat from * across row end P2 tog., work 5 sts. in seed st. (111 sts.)
Next row: Work 5 sts. in seed st. * K1, P1 repeat from * across row end K1, work 5 sts. in seed st.
Next row: Work 5 sts. in seed st. * P1, K1 repeat from * across row end P1, work 5 sts. in seed st.
Repeat these 2 rows once more.
3rd decr. row: Work 5 sts. in seed st. * P1, K2 tog. repeat from * across row end K2 tog., P1, K1, work 5 sts. in seed st. (78 sts.)
Work seed st. for 5 more rows. Bind off in pattern.

FINISHING:
Sew up sleeves and sew sleeves into armhole. Sew buttons in place and block to size.

HAT
With No. 3 needles cast on 75 sts. and work in seed st. for 1 inch. Change to pattern and work even for 3½ inch ending on 4th row of pattern. Change to ribbing:
1st row right side: P3, K1 across row.
2nd row: K3, P1 across row. Repeat these 2 rows once more.
1st decr. row: * P1, P2 tog., K1 repeat from * across row (56 sts. left). Work even for 5 rows in established ribbed pattern.
2nd decr. row right side: * P2 tog., K1 repeat from * across row (37 sts. left). Work even for 3 rows in established ribbed pattern.
3rd decr. row right side: * K2 tog., P2 tog. repeat from * across row.
Pull sts. tog. and fasten off on wrong side.

FINISHING:
Sew up back seam for 3 inch. With No. 3 crochet hook work 1 row s.c. around opening and front of hat. Block to size and sew ribbon to sides of hat as shown in picture.
