MATERIAL:
8 (9-10) skeins Knitting Worsted, Orlon Sayelle or Wintuk (2 oz. skein)
1 pair knitting needles each No. 8 and No. 10
1 crochet hook No. 8 or H
7 (8-8) buttons
2 smaller buttons

GAUGE: 3 sts. = 1 inch

NOTE: Yarn is used double throughout the entire garment.

BACK:
Cast on 45 (49-53) sts. with No. 10 needles and work in seed st. for 3 inch. Decr. 1 st. at each end of needle every 1½ inch. 3 times (all sizes). With 39 (43-47) sts. work even until piece measures 10 (11-12) inch. or any des. length to underarm. Bind off for armhole at the beg. of the next 2 rows 4 sts., at the beg. of the next 2 rows 1 st. (all sizes) (29 (33-37) sts. left). Work even for 5 (5½-6) inch. from the first binding off. Bind off for shoul­ders at the beg. of the next 2 (4-2) rows 9 (5-11) sts., rem. 11 (13-15) sts. bind off for neck.

RIGHT FRONT:
Cast on 27 (29-33) sts. with No. 10 needles and work in seed st. for 3 inch. Decr. 1 st. at armhole edge every 1½ inch. 2 (2-4) times. With 25 (27-29) sts. work even until the entire piece measures like back to underarm. Bind off at armhole edge at the beg. of the next row 3 (4-4) sts. and at the beg. of the next row at same edge 2 sts. (20 (21-23) sts. left). Work even for 4 (4½-5) inch. from the first binding off. Bind off for neck 7 (7-8) sts. at neck edge and then 2 sts. at same edge every other row until 9 (10-11) sts. are left over. Work as high as back and bind off for shoulder at armhole edge 9 (5-11) sts. 1 (2-1) times.

LEFT FRONT:
Work as Right Front reversing all shapings. Work 5 (6-6) buttonholes evenly spaced apart, placing first one 2 (2½-3) inch. from beg. and last one ½ inch below neckline. (To make a buttonhole: K1, P1, K1, bind off 2 sts., work to end of row. On next row cast on 2 sts. over the 2 bound off sts. of previous row.)

SLEEVE:
Cast on 21 (25-27) sts. with No. 8 needles and work in seed st. for 1 inch. Change to No. 10 needles. Incr. 1 st. at the beg. and end of every 6th row until 29 (31-33) sts. are on needle. Work even until the entire sleeve measures 9 (10-11) inch. or any des. length to underarm. Bind off at the beg. of the next 2 rows 2 sts. Decr. 1 st. at beg. of each row until cap measures 2 (2½-3) inch. Decr. 1 st. at the beg. and end of every 4th row 1 (1-2) times. Bind off 2 sts. at the beg. of the next 4 rows. Bind off rem. sts. Work the other sleeve to correspond.

BELT:
With No. 8 needles cast on 11 sts. and work in seed st. for 12½ (13½-14½) inch. Bind off in pattern.

SLEEVE TAB: (make 2)
With No. 8 needles cast on 5 sts. and work in seed st. for 4 inch. Decr. 1 st. at each end of needle every other row until 1 st. is left. Fasten off.

FINISHING:
Sew up side, shoulder and sleeve seams. Sew in sleeves. Collar: Wrong side facing you pick up with No. 8 needles 3 sts. away from each end 29 (31-33) sts. and work in seed st. for 2 (2½-2½) inch. Bind off 2 sts. at beg. of next 6 rows. Bind off. With No. 8 crochet hook work 1 row s.c. around the collar, along each front edge and around each sleeve edge. Turn up hem around bottom. Sew belt to back and tabs to sleeves as shown in picture. Sew 1 button to each sleeve tab, 1 button on each side of belt and 5 (6-6) buttons to jacket. Block to size.
