GAUGE: 7 sts. = 1 inch.

Starting at neck edge with No. 2 needles cast on 92 sts. and work in ribbing K 1, P 1 for 4 rows. NOTE: Buttonholes for girls: work 2 sts., bind off 2 sts., work to end of row. Buttonholes for boys: work to within 4 sts. of end of row, bind off 2 sts., work to end of row. On next row cast on 2 sts. over the 2 bound off sts. Work 2 more rows of ribbing.

BODY:
Change to No. 3 needles and keep the 7 center front sts. in garter st. for border and the rem. sts. are worked in stock. st.
1st row: K 7 (border), K 13 for left front, incr. 1 st. in each of the next 2 sts., K 8 for sleeve, incr. 1 st. in each of the next 2 sts., K 28. incr. 1 st. in each of the next 2 sts., K 8 for sleeve, incr. 1 st. in each of the next 2 sts., K 13 for right front, K 7 (border) 100 sts.
2nd row: K 7 border sts., P across row to within 7 sts., K 7 border sts.
3rd row: K 7 border sts., K 14, incr. 1 st. in each of the next 2 sts., K 10, incr. 1 st. in each of the next 2 sts., K 30, incr. 1 st. in each of the next 2 sts., K 10, incr. 1 st. in each of the next 2 sts., K 14, K 7 border sts. 108 sts.
4th row: like 2nd row.
Continue to work this way incr. 8 sts. every K row 21 (25) times more, having 2 more sts. between the incr. on back and sleeves and 1 more st. on each front. At the same time repeat buttonholes on front border every 2¼ (2½) inch. There are now 276 (308) sts. on needle. Work across 44 (48) sts. for left front and slip them to a holder, work across 56 (64) sts. for left sleeve and slip them to a holder, work across 76 (84) sts. for back and slip them to a holder, work across 56 (64) sts. for right sleeve, slip. rem. 44 (48) sts. for right front to a holder. Right Sleeve: Cast on 2 sts. for underarm, K across sleeve, turn, cast on 2 sts. for underarm (60 (68) sts.) Cont. to work in stock. st. over sleeve sts. only for 1 (1½) inch. Decr. 1 st. at the beg. and end of needle every ¾ (½) inch until there are 50 (52) sts. on needle. Work even until sleeve measures 5½ (6½) inch. or any des. length from underarm. Change to No. 2 needles and decr. 6 (4) sts. in first row of ribbing. Work in ribbing K 1, P 1 for 2 inch. Bind off loosely K as K and P as P. Slip sts. of left sleeve from holder back to needle and finish to correspond. Body: Slip sts. of left front, back and right front back to needle and work as follows: K 7 border sts., K across left front, pick up 4 sts. across underarm, K across back sts., pick up 4 sts. across underarm, work across right front. Cont. to work border sts. and work in buttonholes until piece measures (5) 6 inch. or any des. length from underarm. Change to No. 2 needles and work in ribbing, K 1, P 1 for 2 inch. still keeping the 7 center front sts. in garter st. for border. Bind off loosely K as K and P as P.

FINISHING:
Sew up sleeve seams. With No. 1 crochet hook work 1 row s.c. on front edges. Sew buttons in place and block to size.
