MATERIAL:
4 (5-6) skeins Knitting Worsted white (2 oz. skein)
1 skein Knitting Worsted each French blue, navy, yellow and orange (2 oz. skein)
1 pair knitting needles each No. 4 and No. 6
4 large bobbins
6 buttons

GAUGE: 11 sts. = 2 inch.

BACK:
With white and No. 6 needles cast on 60 (66-72) sts. and work in stock. st. for ¾ inch. P1 row on right side for hemline. Cont. stock. st. and P1 row. Start pattern and work as follows: K20 (22-24) white, attach a bobbin of yellow, K20 (22-24) yellow, attach another bobbin of white, K20 (22-24) white. 2nd row: To prevent a hole, twist yarn around each other when changing colors. P20 (22-24) white, P20 (22-24) yellow, P20 (22-24) white. Repeat these two rows for 3¼ (3½-4) inch. Break off all bobbins and attach navy, K20 (22-24) navy, attach trench blue, K20 (22-24) trench blue, attach orange, K20 (22-24) orange. 2nd row: P20 (22-24) orange, P20 (22-24) french blue, P20 (22-24) navy. Repeat these 2 rows for 3¼ (3½-4) inch. Break off all bobbins. Cont. to repeat these 2 color combinations for block pattern throughout the entire back. With 60 (66-72) sts. work even until the entire piece measures 7½ (8¼-9) inch. or any des. length to underarm. Bind off for armhole at the beg. of the next 2 rows 3 (4-5) sts., at the beg. of the next 2 rows 2 sts. (50 (54-58) sts. left). Work even for 5 (5½-5¾) inch. from the first binding off. Bind off for shoulders at the beg. of the next 6 (4-6) rows 5 (8-6) sts., rem. 20 (22-22) sts. bind off for neck.

LEFT FRONT:
With white and No. 6 needles cast on 30 (33-36) sts. and work in stock. st. for ¾ inch. P1 row on right side for hemline. Cont. stock. st., P1 row. Start pattern and work as follows: K20 (22-24) white, attach a bobbin of yellow, K10 (11-12) yellow, attach another bobbin of white and cast on 11 sts. for front border. 2nd row: P11 border sts. white, P10 (11-12) yellow, P20 (22-24) white. 3rd row: K20 (22-24) white, K10 (11-12) yellow, K5, slip 1 as if to P (yarn in back) K5 white. Repeat 2nd and 3rd row until block measures 3¼ (3½-4) inch. Break off 1 white and yellow bobbin, but don't break white border bobbin. Attach navy, K20 (22-24) navy, attach french blue, K10 (11-12) french blue, work 11 border sts. as before in white. Cont. to repeat these 2 color combinations for block pattern as on back. When piece measures as long as back to underarm bind off at the beg. of the next row at underarm edge 3 (4-5) sts. and at the beg. of the next 2 rows at same edge 2 sts. (34 (36-38) sts. left). Work even for 3 (3½-3¾) inch. from the first binding off. Bind off for neck 13 (14-14) sts. at center edge and then always 2 sts. at neck edge until 15 (16-18) sts. are left over. Work as high as back and bind off for shoulder at armhole edge 5 (8-6) sts. 3 (2-3) times.

RIGHT FRONT:
Work like Left Front reversing all shaping's and using orange in place of navy. Work 6 buttonholes in front border evenly spaced apart, placing first buttonhole after ½ inch and last one ¼ inch below neckline. Work buttonhole as follows: K1, bind off 2, K2, slip 1, K2, bind off 2, K1. On next row cast on 2 sts. over each set of 2 bound off sts.

SLEEVE: (all white)
Cast on 32 (34-36) sts. with No. 6 needles and work in stock. st. for ¾ inch. P1 row on right side for hemline. Cont. stock. st. Incr. 1 st. at the beg. and at the end of every 6th row until 44 (48-52) sts. are on needle. Work even until the entire sleeve measures 8½ (9½-10½) inch. Bind off at the beg. of the next 2 rows 3 (4-5) sts. Dec. 1 st. at the beg. of each row until cap measures 2 (2¼-2½) inch. Decr. 1 st. at the beg. and end of every 4th row 2 (2-3) times. Bind off 2 sts. at the beg. of the next 6 rows. Bind off rem. sts. Work the other sleeve to correspond.

FINISHING:
Sew up side, shoulder and sleeve seams. Sew in sleeves. Turn up hem around bottom and cuffs and sew in place. Fold front border in half and hem to wrong side. Finish buttonholes through double thickness. Neckband: Right side facing you, pick up with white and No. 4 needles 54 (58-62) sts. around the neck and work in stock. st. for 5 rows, P1 row on right side for hemline, work 5 more rows stock. st. and bind off loosely. Fold neckband in half and hem to wrong side. Sew buttons in place and block to size.
