Scarf Pattern #343

Materials: Chadwick's Red Heart Germantown Zephyr, 4 balls (1 oz. balls) of main color, and 1 ball each of 2 contrasting colors.
Milward's Casein knitting pins, 1 pair No. 4 (3½ mm. size).

Starting along length with main color, cast on 234 sts. 1st row: * K 2, p 2. Repeat from * across, ending row with k 2. 2nd row: * P 2, k 2. Repeat from * across, ending row with p 2. 3rd to 6th rows incl: Repeat 1st and 2nd rows alternately. 7th row: Same as 2nd row. 8th to 12th rows incl: Repeat 1st and 2nd rows alternately. Repeat these 12 rows until 5 rows of blocks are made. Break off main color, attach a contrasting color and work in stockinette st (k 1 row, p 1 row) for ½ inch, ending with a p row. Break off, attach second contrasting color and work in stockinette st for 1 inch, ending with a p row. Break off, attach first contrasting color and work in stockinette st for ½ inch, ending with a p row. Break off, attach main color and k 1 row. Then work in block pattern for 5 rows of blocks. Bind off and break off. Fasten threads securely.

Fringe: Cut 3 strands of yarn, each 7 inches long, for each fringe and knot across short sides of scarf, having colors correspond with stripes.
