Boy's Knitted Suit Pattern #5306

Size 2-4 Years

Materials Required: AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY "DAWN" WORSTED FLOSS, ARTICLE W16
61 oz. Balls Cascade Blue.
11 oz. Ball White.
1 Pr. each Bone Knitting Needles No. 1 and No. 3.
¾ yd. Elastic ½" wide.
1 yd. ½" Ribbon.

GAUGE. 7 sts = 1 inch. 9 Rows = 1 inch.
Directions are given for size 2. Size 4 is given in brackets.

SWEATER. BACK. With Blue, on No. 1 needles, cast on 78 (86) sts and work in ribbing of K 2, P 2, for 2 (2½) inches. Change to No. 3 needles and work in pattern.
PATTERN. Work 8 rows in stockinette st (K 1 row, P 1 row), break yarn. Attach White, work 4 rows in garter st (K each row), break yarn. (These 12 rows are repeated for the entire back and front of sweater only.) Work even until back measures 8½ (9½) inches from beginning.
Next 2 Rows. Bind off 3 (4) sts at the beginning of each row, then decrease 1 st each side every other row until 66 (74) sts remain. Work even until armhole measures 4¼ (4¾) inches from the 1st decreasing point.
Next 6 Rows. Bind off 7 (8) sts at the beginning of each row. Change to No. 1 needles and work remaining sts in ribbing increasing 6 sts evenly spaced (30 sts). Work 4 more rows, bind off.
FRONT. Work same as back to underarm, shape armhole same as back, work even until armhole measures 2½ inches from 1st decreasing point.
Next Row. Start shaping neck, work 24 (26) sts, slip the next 18 (22) sts on a holder, and continue work on remaining 24 (26) sts. Decrease 1 st at neck edge every other row until 21 (24) sts remain. Work even until armhole measures same as back armhole. Bind off 7 (8) sts at the beginning of every other row 3 times for shoulder. Attach yarn at neck edge and work other side to correspond.
FRONT NECK BAND. With No. 1 needles pick up 70 sts and work 5 rows of ribbing, bind off.
SLEEVES. On No. 1 needles cast on 44 (46) sts and work in ribbing for 2 inches. Change to No. 3 needles and work in stockinette st, increasing 4 sts evenly spaced, 48 (50) sts. Then increase 1 st on each side every inch until there are 64 (66) sts on needle. Work even until sleeve measures 9½ (10½) inches from the beginning or length desired.
Next 2 Rows. Bind off 3 (4) sts at the beginning of each row, then decrease 1 st each side every row until 18 (20) sts remain, bind off.
Press each section. Sew shoulder and underarm seams. Sew sleeve seams and sew sleeves in position.
PANTS. On No. 1 needles cast on 78 (86) sts, work in ribbing for 1 inch. Change to No. 3 needles and work next 4 (6) rows in stockinette st.
Next 9 Rows. Increase 1 st at the beginning and end of each row, then work even until work measures 3 (4) inches from beginning.
Next Row. Decrease 1 st each side, then decrease 1 st each side every ½ inch 6 times. Decrease 1 st each side every inch twice, then work even until leg measures 8 (9) inches from beginning ending with a P row.
Next Row. Start shaping back, K 38 (40) sts, turn, slip the first st, P to end of row. K 28 (30) sts, turn, slip the first st, P to end of row. K 18 (20) sts, turn, slip the first st, P to end of row. K 8 (10) sts, turn, slip the first st, P to end of row, then work across all sts in ribbing for 1½ inches, bind off. Work other leg to correspond reversing the shaping as follows: P 38 (40) sts, turn, slip the first st, K to end of row. P 28 (30) sts, turn, slip the first st, K to end of row. P 18 (20) sts, turn, slip the first st. K to end of row. P 8 (10) sts, turn, slip the first st, K to end of row, finish same as other leg.
SUSPENDERS. Cast on 7 sts, * K 1, P 1, repeat from * across row. Repeat the first row until work measures 14 inches or length desired, bind off.
Press each section. Sew front and back seams to crotch. Sew leg seams together. Line suspenders with ribbon and sew suspenders in position.
CASING FOR ELASTIC. Attach yarn at inside of waist-band, * ch 5, sl st in next rib ½ inch below, ch 5, sl st in next rib ½ inch above, repeat from * all around, break yarn. Draw elastic through casing and fasten.
