Materials Required: AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY "DAWN" WORSTED FLOSS, ARTICLE W16
5—1 oz. Balls White or any Color desired.
25 yds. each of Pink and Blue or any contrasting Colors.
1 pr. each of Bone Knitting Needles No. 1 and No. 4.
7 Small Buttons.

BACK. With White, on No. 1 needles, cast on 76 sts and work in ribbing of K 2, P 2 for 1½ inches.
Next Row. K across row decreasing 1 st. Next row starts pattern.
1st Row. With No. 4 needles K 1, * insert needle under next st of previous row and K, then slip the st off needle, K 1, repeat from * across row ending with K 1.
2nd Row. K across row.
3rd Row. K 2, * insert needle under next st of previous row and K, then slip the st off needle, K 1, repeat from * across row ending with K 2.
4th Row. K across row.
Repeat the last 4 rows until work measures 8½ inches from beginning.
Next 2 Rows. Bind off 3 sts at the beginning of each row being careful to keep pattern straight.
Decrease 1 st each side every other row until there are 55 sts left on needle. End all sections on wrong side of work. Place sts on st holder.
LEFT FRONT. On No. 1 needles, cast on 43 sts. Work 1st 7 sts at front edge in garter st every row all the way up both fronts (garter st: K each row) and work remaining sts in ribbing K 2, P 2 for 1½ inches. Change to No. 4 needles and work in pattern until work measures 8½ inches from beginning.
Next Row. Bind off 3 sts at armhole edge, then decrease 1 st at armhole edge every other row until there are 33 sts left on needle. Place sts on st holder.
RIGHT FRONT. Work same as left front working buttonholes 3 sts from front edge.
BUTTONHOLE. K 3, bind off next 2 sts and complete row. On the following row cast on 2 sts over the bound off 2 sts.
Work first buttonhole in the 3rd row from the beginning, then space buttonholes about 2 inches apart.
SLEEVES. On No. 1 needles cast on 52 sts and work in ribbing of K 2, P 2 for 1½ inches.
Next Row. K across row increasing 8 sts evenly spaced. Work 4 rows of pattern. Change to No. 4 needles and continue in pattern until work measures 9 inches from beginning or length desired.
Next 2 Rows. Bind off 3 sts at the beginning of each row, then decrease 1 st each side every other row until there are 40 sts left on needle. Place sts on st holder.
YOKE. Slip sts off st holders as follows: Slip the sts of left front, sts of one sleeve, sts of back, sts of other sleeve and sts of right front on No. 4 needles and work in following pattern continuing to work buttonholes in same manner.
1st Row. K 7, * P 3, K 1, repeat from * across row ending row with P 3, K 7.
2nd Row. K 7, * K 3, P 1, repeat from * across row ending row with K 3, K 7. Repeat the last 2 rows for 1 inch ending with 2nd row of yoke.
Next Row. K 7, * P 2 together, P 1, K 1, repeat from * across row ending with P 1, P 2 together, K 7.
Next Row. K 7, * K 2, P 1, repeat from * across row ending row with K 2, K 7.
Next Row. K 7, * P 2, K 1, repeat from * across row, ending row with P 2, K 7. Repeat the last 2 rows until yoke measures 3¼ inches ending on wrong side of work.
Next Row. K 7, * P 2 together, K 1, repeat from * across row ending row with P 2 together, K 7.
Next Row. K 7, * P 2 together, K 1, P 2 together, P 1, repeat from * across row ending with P 2 together, K 1, K 7, bind off.
Press each section. Sew sleeve and side seams, sew buttons in position.
SMOCKING. Use a double strand of yarn throughout and work all rows about ½ inch apart.
1st Row. With Pink, starting at lower edge of yoke bring needle to left of 1st P st of 1st row, insert needle to right of 1st rib st of same row (passing the needle over the P sts), draw these 2 sts together tightly and work over them a second time, * skip next rib st, bring needle up to left of next rib st of same row, insert needle to the right of the next rib st, draw these 2 sts together in same manner, repeat from * across row ending row with drawing the last rib st and the last P st together. With Blue overcast twice all remaining free rib sts.
2nd Row. With Blue, bring needle to left of 1st rib st, insert needle in center of next rib st and draw together in same manner, bring needle to right of next rib st, insert needle back in center of previous rib st and draw together in same manner, repeat from beginning across row.
3rd Row. With Blue, work in same manner as 1st row overcasting the free rib sts in Pink.
4th Row. With Pink, work same as 2nd row.
5th Row. Same as 3rd row.
6th Row. Same as 2nd row.
7th Row. Same as 1st row.
CORD. Cut one 1½ yd. length of Pink and Blue, twist both ends, fold in half, hold ends and let twist itself. Attach to each front section as illustrated, finish ends with pompons.
POMPONS. Wind yarn 50 times over 2 fingers, tie in center, trim into shape. Make one Pink and one Blue pompon.
