One steel crochet hook Size 4 (standard)

GAUGE: 7 sts—1 inch

PATTERN STITCH:
Row 1: Knit across.
Row 2: Purl across.
Row 3: K4, * K2, tog, K3, yo, K1, yo, K3, K2 tog, K7 repeat from * and end K2 tog, K3, yo, K1, yo, K3, K2 tog, K4.
Row 4 and all even rows: Purl across.
Row 5: K3, * K2 tog, K3, yo, K3, yo, K3, K2 tog, K5 repeat from * and end K2 tog, K3, yo, K3, yo, K3, K2 tog, K3.
Row 7: K2, * K2 tog, K3, yo, K5, yo, K3, K2 tog, K3 repeat from * and end K2 tog, K3, yo, K5, yo, K3, K2 tog, K2.
Row 9: K1, * K2 tog, K3, yo, K7, yo, K3, K2 tog, K1 repeat from *.
Row 11: K2 tog, * K3, yo, K9, yo, K3, K3 tog, repeat from * and end K3, yo, K9, yo, K3, K2 tog.
Row 12: Purl across.
Repeat from row 1 for pattern stitch.
With Size 3 needles cast on 145 sts. Work even in pattern stitch for 72 inches ending with row 12. Bind off.

FINISHING: Work 2 rows of sc around the edges, work­ing 3 sts in each corner stitch. Block to 21"/72". Face with chiffon if desired.
