GAUGE: 5 ½-sts to an inch. 6 ¼ rows to an inch.
BACK: Using the #2 needles and the main color, cast in 97 sts. Work in ribbing of k 1, p 1, for 3 inches. Now change to the #5 needles and follow the diagram. Work over 29 sts and leave on the needle; place the next 19 sts onto a stitch holder to be held for the center of the neck; and the remaining 29 sts onto a 2nd st holder for shoulder. Now continue on the first 29 sts, making the decreases as shown. Then work until the shoulder is completed. SHOULDER BIND OFF: From the armhole edge bind off 9 sts twice, 8 sts once. Place the sts of the 2nd st holder onto the needle and work to correspond as shown in the chart.
SLEEVES: Using the #2 needles and the main color, cast on 44 sts and work in ribbing of k 1, p 1 for 2 ½ inches. Increasing to 57 sts on the last row of ribbing.
