Requirements:

YARN: Knitting Worsted: Main Color — 9 oz. Design Color: 3 oz. white.
NEEDLES: 1-pr. each No. 2 and No. 5 single pointed.
CHART

GAUGE: 5 ½-sts to an inch. 6 ¼ rows to an inch.

BACK: Using the #2 needles and the main color, cast on 62 sts. Work in ribbing of k 1, p 1 for 1 ¾ inches. Now change to the #5 needles and follow the diagram. Decreases at the underarm are made by binding off the number of sts shown, in binding off always slip the first st. SHOULDERS: Bind off 9 sts at the beginning of the next 4 rows (18 sts for each shoulder). Place remaining sts onto a st holder for back of neck.

FRONT: Using the #2 needles, cast on 31 sts. Work ribbing for 1 ¾ inches. Now change to the #5 needles and work in the pattern from the underarm edge to center for one half of front.. Work front as shown on the diagram. Neck shaping: At the neck edge bind off 9 sts once. Then again follow the diagram. SHOULDER SHAPING: From the armhole edge bind off 9 sts twice. Make the other front to correspond.

FRONT BANDS: Left front: Using the #2 needles cast on 8 sts and work in ribbing until the piece is long enough for the left front of sweater. Place these sts onto a st holder. Right front: Work as the left for an inch. Buttonhole—Work 3 sts, bind off 2 sts, work to end. On the next row cast on 2 sts over those bound off on row below. Repeat buttonhole every 2 ¼ inches. Make a piece for length of right front. Place onto a st holder. Now sew the bands to the front edges.

SLEEVES: Using the #2 needles and main color, cast on 36 sts. Work ribbing for 2 inches. Change to the #5 needles and knit across row, increasing to 41 sts along this row. Now follow the diagram, making increases as shown at each side of sleeve. Make the decrease for top of sleeve by binding off at the beginning of each row the number of sts shown. Then bind off remaining sts.

FINISHING: Sew the shoulder and side seams. Sew sleeve seams and sew into armhole.

NECK BAND: Using the #2 needles; pick up and knit 76 sts around neck edge, including the 16 sts of bands. Work ribbing for 5 rows. Bind off loosely.
