Change to large needles, knit 1 row increasing 1 st in every 5th st (114 sts on needle). P next row. 1st row of pattern: K 1, k 2 together, k 1, thread over, k 1, * thread over; k 1; sl 1 st, k 1 st, pass sl st over k st, k 2 together, k 1, thread over, k 1. Repeat from * across. End row with thread over, k 1, sl, k, and pass, k 1. 2nd row: P across. Repeat these 2 rows until piece measures 9 inches from top of ribbing, ending with the p row. 1st row of armhole: Bind off 7 sts, k 2 together, k 1, thread over, k 1, pattern across. 2nd row: Bind off 7 sts, p across. 3rd row: Same as 1st row of pattern. 4th row: P 1, p 2 together, p to within 3 sts from end, p 2 together, p 1. Bind off 6 sts at beginning of next 2 rows, then 7 sts for 6 times. Bind off remaining 32 sts for back of neck.
Front. Cast on 104 sts in same manner as done for the back, and work in ribbing for 4 inches. Change to larger needles and k 1 row, increasing 1 st in every 6th st (121 sts on needle). P next row. Work in pattern to correspond with back, until there are 7 rows even after the last armhole decrease, ending with k row. On the next p row, work over 1st 45 sts, turn (leaving remaining 48 sts on needle to be worked later for left side of front), and cast on 8 sts, k 9, work pattern across. On p row, work the last 8 sts in garter st. Work 2 more rows. On next row (5th) make a buttonhole by binding off 4th, 5th, 6th sts; and on the p row cast on 3 sts to correspond to those bound off. Then on the p row (shoulder end) bind off 6 sts once, and 7 each p row until no sts are left, working neck edge even. Break off. Left Front. Join thread at front, k the first 3 sts, p across.
